Digital camera reviews of Canon PIXMA iP3000 Photo PrinterDigital camera Review: A STEAL for the price! Summary: 5 Stars
I've had this printer now for about 4 months and I haven't had any problems with it at all.
The one thing that I found kindof weird about mine is that it gives me A LOT of prior notice that one of the ink tanks is running low.

I love this printer. It's great for the price. Pictures turn out well too.
YAY!!!
Digital camera Review: A Tiny Workhorse Summary: 4 Stars
I've owned the PIXMA iP3000 for a few years now and it has given me fewer problems than my more expensive printers. It is no longer manufactured and I see the price is going up for the remaining ones. When I purchased the iP3000, it was a great deal.
While it does an adequate job of printing photos if the proper paper is used, that is not what I got it for. I just wanted a reliable general use printer for home office needs (Mac based). It prints out documents very well, and presentations too. Web pages look decent as well. It prints fairly fast and is rather quiet while doing so. The software that came with it is okay but I just use the utilities and drivers. Ink replacement and maintenance is fairly simple and I've never had to replace the print heads. They have clogged on occasion after not using the printer for a while, but running the cleaning cycle several times solves that. It isn't an ink hog, but Canon inks are expensive so I've been getting a generic brand that costs 1/5 as much and getting good results.
The PIXMA iP3000 has been a reliable printer for me for a long time, so if you don't expect very high quality photo printing and if you can get a deal on one, go for it!
Digital camera Review: A good all round personal printer Summary: 5 Stars
Got a demonstration unit with a cosmetic problem over a year ago. However, the performance of this printer is exactly what I was looking for. I particularly like the separate ink cartridges. You don't have to throw away perfectly good ink just because one color runs out.
Prints great pictures.
Probably not a good choice for a group printer. Not sure how it would stand up to high-volume use.
Don't know how it deals with 3rd party ink because I've become gun-shy since 3rd party ink ruined my previous Epson printer.
A great companion to my BW laser printer.
I wrote the above 1 1/2 years ago. Today (August '09), the printer is still going strong. I'm on my 3rd set of ink cartridges and the quality is as good as the day I installed it.
Digital camera Review: A great printer at a great price! Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased this printer to replace an ailing Canon S520. The output is excellent, and fast, especially on color photos. This printer boasts a paper tray that can be adjusted to accept print sized photo stock as well as plain letter sized paper. Of course, to get the best results with photos you must use specialty paper. Amazon had the best pricing and the delivery was quick.
Digital camera Review: Almost perfect Summary: 4 Stars
A very cheap printer, it cost me $75. Replacement ink is cheaper than other printers and individual colors means you don't waste ink swapping those tri-color tanks like in others. The quality of the print has a lot to do with the quality of the paper. Use off-brand paper the the photo printing is ghastly. Stick to good fuji, kodak or other name brand paper.
You can refill the tanks with generic non-pigment based ink. I've done it twice and it works fine. Colors aren't as good as with canon ink but a refill kit can keep the ink tanks going 5-10 times.
The only bad thing is Canon omitted the CD printer tray for USA models. Flip down the small plastic tray marked "canon" and you will see a CD-sized tray with a blank black cover over it. That was the cd printer thats disabled. Kind of sucks that would have been useful. Printer is fast & quiet. Design is very retro, like a Radio Shack Model I computer, but it is compact and the paper tray doesn't stick out too much. You can print to thinner cardstock but thicker cardstock will make this printer complain. Paper tray has a nifty resize gadget that allows it to collapse for small 4x6" paper and expand for 8.5x11" paper. Canon has a neat photo printing program you can download from their site, and their printers are updated often.
