Digital camera reviews of Canon PIXMA iP6700D Photo Printer (1441B002)Digital camera Review: A Rock Solid Photo Quality Inkjet. Summary: 4 Stars
I couldn't be much happier with the price and performance. It put my Epson inkjets to shame. (It doesn't have the Epson 'waste ink' features that run up ink costs so horribly). And it provides a consistently better quality picture than any of the Epsons I had.
Digital camera Review: A fine printer Summary: 5 Stars
I've been using the iP6700D for two months. It replaces a Canon i950 which was excellent until it became eratic after three years of hard use. Generally, I buy Epson printers, having had seven or eight of them but I switched to Canon because my digital photographic equipment is Canon and is superb. I use my own card reader and all photo work is done with PhotoShop CS2. I did try the built in features and I think the casual user would be delighted with these user friendly tools.
This printer is remarkable. It is fast, quite, easy to use and economical in it's use of ink. It serves me well for generally printing and for high quality photographs. Most surprising was its very reasonable cost.
I haven't had it long enough to discuss reliablity or longevity but I have reached the conclusion that printers are like television sets. You don't fix them you just get a new one. If I get two or three years out of this printer it will be fine.
My general feeling is that the iP6700D is a great value and I am very happy with my selection. This is one of four printers in use in my house and it is my favorite and produces the highest quality photographs. I am nore interested in a beautiful result than in processing time. I do not use a stop watch to determine how long the highest quality picture takes to print.
When this printer finally quits I will be looking at the Canon line once again.
Digital camera Review: A great printer Summary: 5 Stars
So far, I've only printed my annual Christmas card from Pagemaker, but this is a great printer for both photos and text It is so much better than the Epson Stylus Color 800 it replaces in almost every way, and for 1/3 the price (with coupons and rebates etc.) I can even put away my Peltor ear protectors.
Some downrated the ip6600d on its black and white text performance, but the text performance of this printer is very good.
The Canon users manual says that you can't use 67 weight papers in this printer and I'm not sure what they are referring to, but I printed my Christmas cards on Hamerhill Cover Stock and it worked just fine. I was baffled by that because the photo papers are much heavier than the card stock or cover stock so I went ahead and tried it and it worked fine.
Anyway, I'm happy.
Digital camera Review: A pretty good printer Summary: 4 Stars
This is my second Canon printer and it replaces my i850. I'd still be using it if it hadn't started leaving streaks on photo prints.
Anyways, I bought this particular Canon printer and printed out some photos I had. I was amazed at the clarity of the prints and how quickly it printed. I began to have problems with the software a few days after purchasing this printer. First it told me that there was one too many Cyan tanks installed, then it began to say that the Cyan tank was low, then it said the same take was empty! I loaded the printer back into the box and took it back where I purchased it to exchange it for another one. The replacement is working fine and so far, I have no complaints about this particular model at all. If there is one complaint about this printer, it's that it doesn't have an "auto on" feature like my old i850 does. Aside from that, I think I made the right purchase.
Digital camera Review: Also Prints CDs/DVDs (with an accessory) Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this printer because of the high-quality people reported and because I wanted to print CDs and DVDs without resorting to an Epson printer (which I have all sorts of issues with, including constantly-clogging print heads). I'm happy to report that it works great! I had to purchase a $20 (or so) CD printing accessory on eBay, then I installed it on the printer (which the accessory is made for). Apparently, these Canon printers can print to Disks overseas, but in the USA, that feature is disabled. Who knows why, but I found that it worked amazingly well!
The best CDs I've found to print to are Taiyo Yuden WaterShield Glossy White CD-R. Taiyo Yuden also makes the best DVDs to print to (also called WaterShield). You can print photo quality to these and they dry quickly. I use this printer on my MacPro in MacOS X 10.5.4. Haven't tried using it in Vista64 yet...
Update: I'm still using this printer (as of 11-Sep-2008), and it works great, though I wouldn't say I'm a heavy user. I use it mostly to print to DVDs and CDs. I've got it hooked up through my Apple Airport Extreme (802.11n, 5GHz) and my Mac sees it in either Bonjour or directly. I'm using Neato DiskLabel as printing software and the Taiyo Yuden Watershield DVDs/CDs. The photorealism available with this combination is amazing! And no annoying stickers to have peel off in your car's CD player.
<update 2> I finally replaced some of the ink, after a couple years (like I said, not a heavy user!), and I just realized that my previous printer, an Epson, would have never let me keep ink in it that long without plugging the heads. I'm impressed with how long this thing can sit without use, then work perfectly when I need it!
