I purchased this ink jet printer because my laser printer makes poor quality photo images. After owning both HP and Lexmark "photo" printers, this one beats them all for image quality. The colors are true and free of the typical streaks from many printers. The only downside is that it uses 6 individual ink cartridges that are low capacity and pricey. You can, however, just replace the individual cartridges as they run out of ink. I tried non-Canon, less expensive cartridges and they do NOT work. A big PLUS is that it has two paper feeds, so you can load both regular and photo paper and decide which to use when setting up the print properties. You can save a lot of ink and photo paper by prining drafts on plain paper first, without having to switch paper manually.I recommend this printer if you want extremely high quality photo prints at a bit higher cost per print, but from a reasonably priced printer.Digital camera Review: Great photo printer

This is my second Canon photo printer and it continues to meet all of my expectations. I was really sad when I had to replace my first Canon printer, but have been totally satisfied with my recent purchase. The Canon PIXMA included step by step directions for set-up. The print quality is excellent. I have printed a number of photos and con't to be pleased with the print quality. I am very fond of the Canon photo record software that accompanies the printer. I can not recall the exact number of photos printed from my initial set of ink tanks but the quantity met my expectations. The printer is very easy to use, very user-friendly, and has every feature I need. The memory card slots allow you to print your photos without having to use your computer. The only negative thing I have to say about the printer is that it is a little slower in printing photos but for me this is not an issue. The upside to the printing process is that it is super quiet. Bought this printer for my wife who took up scrap booking and photo albums. She is not technical but learned to use the functions quickly. Print quality is excellent, printer looks good, and we've had no problems with it (8 months).
Only negative is there are 8 ink cartridges which are small and don't hold much ink. The price of the cartridges has been steadily rising.
