Digital camera reviews of Canon Pixma MP610 Photo All-In-One Inkjet Printer (2180B002)

Digital camera Review: A good fast printer
Summary: 5 Stars

I have had this multi-function printer for one month. I replaced a Lexmark X83 multi-function printer with this printer. The Canon Pixma MP610 prints crisp and clear pages much faster than the Lexmark I was used to. The scanning function is also much faster, and gives more options for scanning quality. The save function is a little bit confusing when saving several scans per session, as it saves multiple copies of the same scans with the names given to the various scans that are saved in that session. I like the option of saving scans in the PDF format as well.

The black ink cartridge seems to go pretty fast, as the first one is almost empty after about half a ream of paper. The pages were full test pages as well as some large black & white pictures, so the amount of ink used may be about right. The Lexmark was hard on ink too, but the Canon is surprising me how fast the ink is being used up. I haven't changed the cartridge yet, but the initial cartridge installation was easy. I expect the replacement to be easy too. The individual color cartridges also prevents waste as the usual tri-color ink cartridges must be replaced when any one of the colors runs out.

I have not had any difficulty with sheets misfeeding. I have not tried to print anything other than 20 # bond as Canon states that the only specialty papers that can be used are Canon papers. When I need to print index paper, I will try it to see how it prints. Manufacturers often state that only their specialty papers can be used.

I haven't used the memory card slots at this time either, but it's nice to have the option to print from them.

The printer footprint is slightly smaller than the Lexmark, so that has not been a problem.

Overall, I have been very satisfied with this printer, and the price at Amazon was really good.

Digital camera Review: A great all in one Printer
Summary: 5 Stars

As my previous Canon Printer, this one is reliable, easy to use, printing
wonderful prints, scanner is also easy and quick. I haven't used the
copy feature yet, as I don't usally copy anything. I do recommend this Pixma MP610, it's a lot of machine for a good price.

Digital camera Review: A great multi-function device.
Summary: 5 Stars

I have the MP600 Canon, and I'm very happy with it (This page is for the MP610, and the MP900 is being sold now--I don't know what the differences are, but they look essentially the same).

POSITIVE ASPECTS

I bought this device so that I could scan my artwork and other print material and save it in Adobe PDF files. This works very well, because now I have backup copies, I can easily store large quantities of print material, and I can easily carry and access this material on my laptop.

The device has a very simple interface that was easy to understand after just a few minutes of playing with it.

It can be used as a copier ("xerox") without being hooked up to a computer. It also has memory card slot which allows other functions like storing data or printing photos from a camera without being hooked up to a computer.

When hooked up to your computer, you can use it as a standard printer, and you can also use it as a scanner. Using the simple interface you can choose whether you want to scan as a PDF or a JPG file, and whether you want black & white or color scans. Unlike some other scanners, the scanned files are optimized for regular-sized viewing on your computer-- that is, the scan looks decent at regular size, and the scan is relatively small in terms of kilobytes (thus making it easier to store or send via email).

POTENTIAL DRAWBACKS

If you work in an office, you may be familiar with office-quality printers and scanners-- be aware that prints and scans using this device will not be the same high quality. A standard large office printer may cost $40,000-$60,000. A large stand-alone scanner is also expensive, takes up lots of desk space, and has no other function except being a scanner. This type of equipment will produce very high-quality prints and scans, but it's far more than the average person needs at home.

The resolution of prints and scans from this device is not especially high. For example, if you want to blow up a portion of a photo that you've scanned, it may come out a little fuzzy. Prints, likewise, are not perfect. Don't expect to print a photo on this printer and have it look like a glossy 4x6 that you just picked up at the photo shop. However, I'd say that the quality of prints and scans from this device is FAR greater than anything you could have gotten from a personal printer or scanner 10 or even 5 years ago.

Also, the scanner is a little slow compared to modern office equipment. If you want to scan entire books of material, you will need some patience.

In total, the Canon MP series offers a number of easy, useful functions in a relatively cheap, compact, well-designed package. As long as you understand that the resolution will not be quite as good as you've seen it on your office equipment, you should be very satisfied with this device, as I have been.

Digital camera Review: AMAZING, for the price
Summary: 5 Stars

I must admit, catching this printer with a sale at $80 is unbeatable.

The printer prints at a decent quality (completely legible) in fast mode, of which will do a full page in about 4 seconds. Slower modes present far better quality, depending on your needs.
Duplex (double-sided) printing is awesome for saving paper in all documentation.
The scanner works fine, and both scanning and copying is a cinch.
The printer has been used infrequently for almost 6 months now, and the cartridge has not had any problems or used much ink. Most documents have been printed with black, however.
The design is unique and stylish. Although it is large, you cannot expect much smaller when it comes to an All-in-One. The LED screen is a nice addition, and It will hold quite a bit of paper. Note that the paper does stack vertically, so do expect to use the same amount of space as a small TV (~20").

I have not used this printer for pictures, so I will not comment on the quality. Text and others, however, have been far better than most printers I have used.

Again, this is a steal for $80, and at this price and my personal usage I could not give it less than 5 stars. I would, however, also order a USB cord that goes from rectangular end to square, both sides male. This is required to hook up to computer, and does not come in the box.

Digital camera Review: ASTOUNDING!
Summary: 5 Stars

This is the best printer I've ever owned . Would have liked better setup instructions...be sure you look for the large one page setup. The book was worthless...for setup anyway. Amazon was very helpful with some issues that came up later...very thoughtful and caring.Use their helpline if you need help.
