Digital camera reviews of Canon PowerShot A1100IS 12.1 MP Digital Camera with 4x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom and 2.5-inch LCD (Silver)Digital camera Review: Batteries Summary: 3 Stars
The camera does a very fine job in taking pictures, it has very logical ease of operation but the battery, part of the purchase, allows only the shooting of less than ten pictures before overheating. I did not realize from the add that this was not a camera with a rechargeable battery! Cameras previously bought always had a charger and the battery to match!
Digital camera Review: Battery Issue Summary: 4 Stars
Camera excellent, easy to use, etc.(far exceeded my expectations in fact).
However, when the batteries enclosed were drained, I tried three pairs of freshly charged rechargeable batteries, none of which would work (and which worked in other devices). The lid would not easily close on them. When finally force closed, the batteries did not work. It appears Canon has a slight difference in their battery sizes intended to force you to buy their rechargeables.
Buyers should be aware of this problem since it prevented me from taking pictures I wanted to take (and will not have the opportunity later), even after I have found batteries that work with the camera.
Digital camera Review: Battery life is terrible Summary: 3 Stars
This camera is very portable, has very good picture quality for a sub compact and is easy to use. But the AA battery life is probably good for 25 pictures only. I find that pretty unacceptable compared to the rechargable battery "card". I'll be trading this in soon.
Digital camera Review: Belated Christmas Present Summary: 4 Stars
Bought myself a belated Christmas present. Love it. Its light weight, compact and easy to use. I carry in my purse and no I don't carry saddlebags or luggage. Just wish I had picked up a case for it too. Next time.
Digital camera Review: Best camera is the one you have when you need it... Summary: 4 Stars
I'm an experienced photographer already equipped with DSLRs (EOS 30D, EOS 5D MKII), but these are not always pratical when you are travelling or biking (I do both on a regular basis). I try to take my DSLRs as often as possible with me but but there are occasions when I don't want to be bothered by the bulky cameras. At the same time, having already invested significantly in DSLR equipment, I wanted to limit my investment. A G10 or G11 would have been nice but for what I wanted to do, it would have been an overshoot. I'm mainly using my A1100is for candid pictures or pictures of places I know I will be coming back with my DSLRs later. Overall, I'm happy about quality of the pictures. I rarely use the full resolution, I typically shoot with medium resolution as I will rarely print large pictures (I have my DSLRs for that).
What I like:
- price
- size
- optical viewfinder (not many point and shoot cameras at this price range still has an optical viewfinder)
- slow shutter speed flash mode
- IS
What I'm missing:
- no aperture priority mode where I can choose a precise f-stop
- wish would have a wider angle
I would definitely recommend this for people on low budget but still wants good quality pictures. It has a lot of features for a camera which sells around $150.
