Digital camera reviews of Canon PowerShot A1100IS 12.1 MP Digital Camera with 4x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom and 2.5-inch LCD (Silver)Digital camera Review: CameraWithAView Summary: 5 Stars
First function then style. I find this model and brand to meet my functional needs superbly. Not too big and large enough to have AA standard batteries and optical view finder. Until screen view finders can perform in sunlight, I will always go with an optical view finder. I find the efficiency of this camera to allow more than enough battery life from AA Lion batteries now commonly available. Oh! and what a fine movie mode. Viewers are very impressed with the results of family and air show results in the movie mode. I will keep my fingers crossed that reliability can keep up with the fine engineering functional design of this camera. There should be an award of some sort for all the hard work of making this product happen.
Digital camera Review: Canon A1100IS - don't buy it! Summary: 1 Stars
Just returned from a trip to France with this camera. I have purchased Canon cameras in the past and all except for a couple of others I purchased a few years ago, they have been of high quality, but I was horrified to see haloing around the light portions of the pictures in the resulting photographs (in the sky around trees for example) and a general lack of sharpness. The quality is terrible! I am an "art" photographer and have used other point and shoots in the past in my "serious work," but the quality of this one is exceptionally bad. By my experience with the last few Canon cameras that I have bought, Canon has sunk to the lowest quality, at least on their mid-range point and shoot cameras. It also eats batteries. I was not even able to get through a complete day on a standard set of batteries in this camera, mind you with over average shooting. I would not recommend this camera, nor with past purchases Canons in general if this is what they have come to.
Digital camera Review: Canon A1100is the last of it's kind? Summary: 5 Stars
This is my second Canon A1100S. I lost my first one on my trip to Ireland last year. I chose this camera primarily because it has an optical view finder & it is powered by 2 AA batteries. Being compact makes it a great travel camera. The batteries can be purchased any where & I always carry 2 spares in my pocket. To obtain maximum battery life, I use the optical view finder with the viewing screen turned off. The optical view finder is also good to have in bright light conditions when the viewing screen is difficult to see in bright conditions. Unfortunately, Canon is not going to produce this camera anymore. Like other camera makers, Canon will no longer offer similar AA battery cameras like this. I wouldn't mind having a camera that requires special batteries but there seems to be no battery size standard in the new cameras. Each maker uses their own unique batteries that are not interchangeable with other makes/models. They are expensive to replace too! Purchase this camera at a great price while it's still available.
Digital camera Review: Canon Camera Summary: 5 Stars
For me the best part of this camera is the viewfinder. The LCD screen is great as long as you aren't outdoors in a sunny situation. I have missed too many pictures because I couldn't see the screen. With this camera I have the option of either one. I love it!
