This was a birthday gift for my wife who is not a "photographer," but just a "snap-shooter." The ease of use and picture quality are perfect for her, and for me, as well. The IS is very effective. It is much more than she expected, but not as intimidating as she worried it would be. I had high hopes for this compact digital camera after reading the positive reviews.....I should have paid more attention to the bad reviews. On it's first real test, which was outside on hot day, it practically inhaled batteries. (it takes 2 AA's and this day I used 6 batteries over a 4 hour period) The zoom control stopped working, but worked later when the camera cooled off....the camera repeatedly shut itself off.....
Now for the picture quality....not bad until you enlarge the image. When the images are upsized to 100%, they take on a grainy, diffused, soft focus effect that is paricularly noticeable on the subject's edges......no thanks.
In general the camera has a weak, low quality feel and performance to match. I own several digital cameras and thought it would be nice to have a high megapixel (12.1) super compact.....this camera is more like a toy......I sent it back, and will put the $$ toward something that will deliver what it promises.

I wanted a small camera that my neice could carry with her easily. I also wanted a camera that used AA batteries so she wouldn't miss any shots because the battery needed charging. This camera was a bit more bulky than some of the slim cameras but it is still easily carried in her purse or front jeans pocket. And, of course, it uses AA rechargable batteries or AA alkaline batteries. She loves it! I have used Canon digital cameras for several years now and the interface has always been easy to use and is the same with this camera. The image stabilization is a plus for low light situations. It lets her use the 4X zoom even when the light is not ideal. I was concerned the 2.5" screen would not be big enough given that most of the very slim cameras have 3" screens but after seeing it in action I think the screen is very usable. Overall, my neice is very happy with this camera and has already commented that when the batteries ran out while on vacation she was able to purchase a couple more AA batteries on the boardwalk and she was back taking more pictures in a matter of minutes. You wouldn't be able to do that with a camera that had to be recharged!
