Digital camera reviews of Canon PowerShot A460 5.0MP Digital Camera with 4x Optical Zoom (Silver)

Digital camera Review: Good camera
Summary: 4 Stars

Camera is very good and reliable. The AA batteries do not last very long though, which can be frustrating. Otherwise it is a solid Canon camera that takes very nice snapshots.

Digital camera Review: Good camera at a very good price
Summary: 4 Stars

Canon A460 is a friendly camera, easy to use and with enough MP and zoom for non-proffesionals. I would recommend it for beginners. I think it is a nice camera at a very reasonable price.

Digital camera Review: Good choice, esp. if you want an optical viewfinder
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this as a second camera to carry around (my other one is very bulky). It was a very good deal, especially for the features it has. It takes video with audio, doesn't burn through batteries, zooms nicely, and seems solidly built. The thing that cinched it for me was the optical viewfinder. Almost no entry level cameras have this anymore, and it's really better than an LCD screen in harsh sunlight. The downside is its size. It is not as svelte as some of its competition and is at the upper limit of what fits in my pocket comfortably.

Digital camera Review: Good value, some shortcomings
Summary: 4 Stars

I bought this camera at Christmas for my kids (12-year-old daughter likes to do "KidTV" videos with friends; 9-year-old son makes stop-motion and live videos of Lego etc. for YouTube). I got it partly because my Canon A95, which in all other respects I *love*, only does 30-second videos; and partly because I got tired of copying VHS-C tapes for them. :-) I picked this model for its combination of price and Canon quality. It has been very useful. Basic modes are very simple to use. The kids have not really explored many of the other options. Image quality is generally excellent. However, early on I did some testing and found that, in addition to the high noise at even low-ish light levels that others have reported, it has some trouble focusing when zoomed (*optical* zoom, not digital). Standing across the room and doing incremental zoom steps on some object, I found that the higher the zoom, the more blurred the image was - not always, but often. This should not happen. It is clearly a focusing issue, not a question of resolution. But the kids have not had any complaints. It appears to be just right for their level of use, and that's what I recommend it for.

Digital camera Review: Good, basic camera
Summary: 3 Stars

Fine camera. Does every job adequately. I purchased it with the Kingston 1 gb. Digital Flash card, and both have functioned extremely well. The camera is straightforward to use, and if you have used a previous camera, you can step right into this one without any instructions. The software that comes with it is VERY primitive. It does not rotate pictures, for instance, and exporting pictures to send as emails is cumbersome and nonintuitive. You will be glad to use earlier software if you have it. The Kingston Flash card worked without any glitches.
