I previously purchased a PowerShot A640 and was so impressed with it that I purchased the A740 for my granddaughter. For the price, it's hard to beat the Canon. This camera is small and compact, yet it feels like a camera instead of a credit card. It uses two AA batteries that can be purchased anywhere. The camera has many features that you would expect to find on a far more expensive camera. It takes great pictures and is easy to use. It is difficult to see the LCD screen for taking pictures in bright sunlight, but camera shades are made for that purpose. All in all, I would recommend this Canon A470 to everyone. This is a great camera for the amateur photographer; it may well be a great camera for a pro as well, but I'm not a pro so I don't know. I can say that it takes great pictures and has provided me (and my 12-year old son, who is now a budding photographer) with endless enjoyment. Purchased this camera for my 7-yr-old granddaughter and she was up and shooting with minimal instruction. Wonderful screen, easy to use, small enough to carry just about anywhere, but very good quality photos despite its conservative price.
