Digital camera Review: Go ahead and buy it

I just wanted a digital camera. Nothing too complex, but with enough features that once I got used to it, I could branch out to new things.
I shopped & shopped. Looked at about 100 or cameras online, read a ton of reviews, and asked friends who had cameras, and finally figured out want I wanted:
Point & shoot - a camera with which I could take basic family photos.
3+ megapixels - enough to get great resolution up to 8 X 10 prints, without having to pay a ton of money.
Features - but not so many options that I would have to take a class to figure it all out.
Hand friendly - small enough to carry along anywhere, but big enough that I didn't feel like a giant trying to operate tiny little controls.
Well, this camera was absolutely perfect. I took my first picture approximately 5 min. after opening the box. Literally put in the batteries and memory card, turned on the power, and hit the shutter. My first attempt at downloading photos to my computer would have been flawless if I had ony remembered to actually turn the camera on. (pesky little details)
The pictures are the best I have ever taken, were incredibly easy to take, and I haven't even begun to explore the possibilities. For the price, which was phenomenal, I am more than pleased. And I didn't have to hang around Best Buy for hours waiting on some teenager with angst. Double bonus!

I purchased a 510 PowerShot in summer of 2005. After couple time of use the zoom on the cameras lens wouldn't work anymore. I cound't take any picture anymore. I contacted Canon over this and they ask me to pay shiping to send the camera to them to fix.

This camera has very good features for the novice and for the more experienced photographer. I love having the movie clip feature and black and white options and sepia.
Batteries have been a problem for me. Rechargeables don't last very long. I have bought lithiums but haven't tried them out yet. I beleive this is a problem with digitals in general, not particulary just this camera.
I would recommend this camera to all interested in purchasing.
Digital camera Review: Good Shots but Some Functions not as Expected

This was my first digital camera. I did about 8 hours of study before I decided on it. As an amatuer, it pretty much does what I expected. I got very good quality shots, after I studied the options--there are a lot. I also get some snap-shot quality photos. The 100% automatic setting does not always get the white balance (sun light/florescent/light bulbs/etc) correct and it does not allow the "super fine" density setting. I want the super fine so that I can get the sharpest photos. It works better to use the mostly automatic "P" setting and choose your own white balance and density. The manual focus does not work well though one internet review said it was one of the few manual focuses that did work. But the automatic focus usually gets it right, which is what I really want. We got a 250MB memory card which gives us about 150 shots--plenty to take several shots at one time and insure I get a great picture. But with the best quality settings, I have to wait a few seconds to take follow-up shots. I recommend that you get a AC converter. The manuel warns of potential problems if the batteries die while down loading photos. Good rechargable NiMH batteries have worked well and have saved us a lot of expense.Digital camera Review: Good camera

Good size, good features. AA battery power is a major reason I bought this camera because you can find replacements almost anywhere and not be dead in the water if your batteries go dead. Good low light images. Functions are fairly simple to use. As long as you are not expecting an SLR then you will be impressed by this camera.
