Digital camera Review: Amazing for its size, but...

This is an amazing little camera. For me, it takes the place of a much bigger predecessor, meaning I can carry it easily in a pocket. On the plus side, it takes very good pictures, and the ability to change nearly all the settings gives a flexibility that I really appreciate. My wife happily sticks to the pre-sets and is pleased with the results. On the negative side, carry lots of batteries! It goes through them rather quickly; of course, you'll get lots of pictures, but that only makes the battery situation worse. In addition, the focus time is often greater than I would like, especially in less-than-optimum lighting situations (like taking pictures of granddaughters' dance recitals, for example.) It would also be nice to have RAW capability. Also, there are so many possible setting changes that it takes a while to get used to all of them. Fortunately, most of the locations for the commands were familiar, since I have owned other Canon cameras. Overall, this is a wonderful little camera that gives excellent value for the money. This is an excellent take-along camera for trips and social events. I have used it for two months and had excellent results for casual photography, mostly people and pets. I especially like that, even though it is of compact size, it is much easier than some to hold steady and compose shots through the viewfinder as I am used to doing with film cameras. I also like that it uses standard AA batteries, allowing the use of relatively inexpensive NiMH rechargeables, and I can have several charged-up sets with me; also the ubiquitous SD memory chip, which I bought as 2-Gig chips from Newegg for $9.50 ea, a pleasant surprise from what they were even a yr ago! This camera is excellent for the price. Gives you plenty of choices in controls for a point-and-shoot, and the color is exceptional. It takes pix quickly and it is easy to learn. Simple and quite effective. I have done a lot of research before purchasing this product. So I had really high expectations to start with and the camera did not disappoint. It comes with a lot of options, modes and features like Image stabilization and face detection. If you are looking for a point and click camera, this is great and you are looking for a little optimization, its all there too. It is a good mid range camera. The pictures are all very sharp and clear. Would recommend to anyone looking for a decent mid range camera for a cheap price. If you want a really good camera, SLR is the way to go.
