Digital camera reviews of Canon PowerShot D10 12.1 MP Waterproof Digital Camera with 3x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom and 2.5-Inch LCDDigital camera Review: 24 days, in the ocean 6-8 hours each day, AWESOME Summary: 5 Stars
Took this camera to San Salvador, Bahamas on a scientific research trip for 24 days. The heat was intense - never under 80 degrees F. The camera was in the water with me 6-8 hours every single day and NEVER malfunctioned. What is even more amazing is that about 6 other people on the trip also brought underwater cameras (all Olympus) and every single one of them malfunctioned or quit completely during the trip. My camera was the sole survivor. I took over 1500 pictures and several videos as well. This camera was also the sole reason I was able to complete my research because I needed photos to track what I was studying. The only problem I had was out of the water in the heat, the screen tended to condensate but the problem was solved by keeping it tucked under my shirt and out of direct sunlight. This camera is a workhorse and completely dependable.
Digital camera Review: 3.5 - 4 stars Summary: 3 Stars
I pretty much got this camera as a 3rd camera for water trips since I was too cheap to buy an underwater housing for my s90 and 5dmkII. Picture quality wise it's never going to be as clear as the s90 and obviously no where near the 5d. I expected this. For a point a shoot, the camera does its job, although it really struggles in low light. Maybe I'm spoiled by my other camera's but I expected more especially for $300.
Size wise this thing is a honker. Sized funnily so it doesn't fit well in your pocket and is heavy to boot. Had it not been for the fact that I have several batteries for my s90 which this camera can also use I would've probably gone to the underwater Panasonic TS-3.
Overall durability of the camera is good. I think it's more geared for families with kids who go to the water park or to the beaches. toss the camera to your kids for some quick pictures, if they drop it in the water or the sand no worries.
Digital camera Review: 33ft is the "safe" rating, it can go much deeper Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased this camera in June of 2009 prior to a trip to Couples Swept Away in Jamaica. My wife and I completed over 10 dives with the camera, most of which far exceeded the recommended maximum depth of 33ft. I took it down to 60-85ft on several occasions and it held up just fine. The only effect I saw at that depth was the LCD screen getting a little concave, but apparently they build a little flex in that piece as it returns to normal shape back at the surface.
Anyway, almost two years later we still continue to use it as our primary camera (we have a Canon dSLR as well, but it's too big to lug around). The kids love this camera too, as it can be dropped without worry. We use it each summer at the pool, in the winter out in the snow. No worries with this thing. I highly recommend it.
Digital camera Review: 6 month later dead LCD scren Summary: 3 Stars
Love the camera. I would marry it if I could but alas my friends after our 6 month honeymoon of near perfect pictures the LCD screen is dead. No screen no viewfinder, no review, no menus etc. Make sure you get the extended warranty for this camera. I did not and I now have to hope the problem does not reappear after warranty repair. If so I am out of luck.
Digital camera Review: A Fantastic Camera! Summary: 5 Stars
What an amazing camera. My husband and I bought this camera for a snorkeling trip to Kauai. It takes fantastic pictures both in and out of the water. I'm a professional photographer and this was the only camera we took on our trip because I didn't want to be packing my big camera around with me. The picture quality of this little guy is amazing. The huge screen really came in handy underwater and I loved that you could move the strap to any of the four corners. The video quality underwater was great, too. When I opened the battery/sd compartment after several hours of being submerged during our snorkeling trip it was dry as a bone. Not a drop of water in it. If you take it in salt water, though it's very important to soak it for a while in fresh water as soon as possible afterward. Otherwise the salt will ruin it very quickly. I'm so happy that we bought this camera. It's great to stick in your purse when you think you might want a camera. The size is very convienent. And I love the blue color! Overall, this was a great purchase and I would highly recommend it to everyone.
