I love everything about my canon powershot sd1000. It does everything I expected plus more. The battery lasts longer than I thought and I was able to find an extra battery for under $13.00. I loved my original Canon Elph but was not pleased with APS film. The SD 1000 is a whole new breed of animal. It is slimmer than the original and packed with features. The LCD screen is large, bright and rotates automatically when the camera is held vertically, while still providing full frame viewing rather than a "cropped" view. The camera also retains an optical view finder. The pictures are terrific even on full auto. Although there is no full manual mode there are provisions for controling white balance for different light sources, as well as exposure compensation. There is red eye reduction and a one button ISO shift that boosts the ISO to a higher level. The picture modes, portrait, landscape etc. work well. "My colors" which lets you choose a color for an object while making the rest of the photo black and white, or "reverses" the colors in a photo are almost "one step" features toward creative photography. I have not tried the "photo stitch" feature yet which can link several snapshots into a panoramic scene but it sounds great. This is a camera of convenience...to have in a pocket always. If it was not for the info provided by my computer when viewing my photos, I would be hard pressed to tell the difference between photos taken with my 10+ megapixel DSLR.Digital camera Review: Canon SD1000

I am very satisfied with Canon SD1000. Pictures are great. I was looking for a camera which gives me bright colors and no blurry pictures. The image stabilization works fine and the face detection technology is awsome. The red eye reduction also works great.Digital camera Review: Canon SD1000

Very good camera, quality pictures, easy to use with less buttons than most. It has a still-frame setting that lets you take frames at 1 or 2 second intervals then play back as a movie - I love this feature, one of the reasons I bought the camera.
I would have given 5 stars if it had O.I.S. but this hasn't caused too much grief for me. I still opted to get this camera over it's replacement (SD1100) with O.I.S., partly because of the still-frame feature and I'm not regretting it. I also tried the 1100 in a store and liked it less.
I do appreciate the optical viewfinder. And for those who complain about no Sports setting, the Kids & Pets setting works the same. It also has some manual features which is nice. Video works very well and has unlimited capacity.
My only gripe is no battery level indicator and the low battery warning comes on shortly before battery dies but I bought a cheap Lenmar spare battery that I keep in the case so this hasn't been a problem for me.

I've never had a digital camera before, i wanted a good point and shoot camera worth its price and that took superb pictures. This camera does that and is definately worth its money! Its compact, and yet powerful, easy to use even for a novice person like myself! If your looking for a camera thats under or around $200 and yet takes good pictures this is it!
