Digital camera reviews of Canon PowerShot SD630 6MP Digital Elph Camera with 3x Optical Zoom

Digital camera Review: Best P&S DigiCam I've owned to date!
Summary: 5 Stars

Had this for 2 weeks now. Easy, intuitive menus. Outstanding screen! Big, clear and bright!

Lots of nice features. I like the "ghost selector dial" on the screen when your thumb glides over it. Easy to see in the dark. I also like the instant max brightness for the LCD when pushing the button for 2 seconds.

Takes great pictures. I had a Nikon 5600 (WAS a die hard Nikon fan!) prior and this is light years ahead of it in speed, image quality and features. Did I mention the great 3" screen? And it recycles fast. the Nikon took forever...and a day. Missed a lot of good shots because of that.

I have been digital since my first Sony FD-81 floppy disk camera. When they were $600. I have no negatives about this camera. It feels good, takes killer shots and viewing them is a pleasure.

I am awaiting a Sandisk Extreme3 2gb card. The save speed is real good with my '04 vintage Ritek 66x card. Can't wait to get the 133x Sandisk!

Go buy this camera!

Digital camera Review: Best, affordable camera you can own!
Summary: 5 Stars

This Canon Powershot SD630 is by far the best camera I owned, for a reasonable price. The shutter speed is fast, very impressive compared to my Sony Cybershot. The view screen is large and movie mode is great. I definitely recommend this product.

Digital camera Review: Better than the SD700
Summary: 5 Stars

After doing a lot of searching, I bought the Canon SD700 through Amazon, which was pretty much the only place I could find it. After recieving it (and Amazon shipped earlier than expected:) ), I was not happy with it at all. The auto was ok, but every single closeup I took, no matter what settings I used, came out blurry. Either the IS didn't work, maybe it was a defective camera?, or maybe it just takes crummy closeups? Maybe it was ME? Anyway, I ended up returning the 700 and bought the Canon SD 630. I LOVE the camera! It takes such wonderful pictures, no blurry closeups or anything! Every picture is crisp and clear and the color is absolutely perfect! It's easy to hold, easy to shoot and it just basically terrific. Even the video is good and very little noise...you can actually hear your subject and your own voice. Don't waste your money on the 700. In my opinion, you'll be just as happy....or like me much happier with the 630. Oh, by the way...Amazon is great...quick returns and refunds!

Digital camera Review: Big impact yet so compact!
Summary: 5 Stars

Pros: Picture quality is still good, Canon has not lost it's touch after ten years of making Elphs. The size is awesome, I can place it anywhere I'd like. With a three inch LCD, who needs a view finder - does anyone still use a view finder? It offers a lot of scene modes and they are not that difficult to get to, it just takes a little time to get used to the buttons. The 6.0 megapixel and 3x optical zoom and UA lens is all you need. This Elph now offers a new ISO 800, which reduces image blur and expands low-light shooting ability. It's camera solution CD-ROM software has improved a lot, so it's easier to download, edit, and view your pictures.

Cons: It's features are a bit basic but it offers just enough for those point and shot customers. So if you want a lot of manual features you might want to pay more for another camera. The LCD might get thumbprints very easily but I have one word for you: invisibleSHIELD. Amazons might sell one for this camera, if not, do a web search. It doesn't come with a case or bag; the manual is boring and just like all the others - you may need to buy a book if photography is a hobby for you. The Function/Set buttons might be too small, but I have small hands so I'm cool with their size.

Conclusion: The Canon PowerShot SD630 is an solid ultracompact camera, with performance and photo quality that more than make up for its few design flaws and it's price. It's a good shooter, and its feature set makes it quite flexible for a camera of its size. That said, it's basically a more expensive version of the PowerShot SD600 with a larger screen and no optical viewfinder.

Digital camera Review: Breaks down a lot
Summary: 3 Stars

I have had this one for over a year and had to send it to the Cannon repair facility twice. Albeit their year long warranty they always claim that "wear and tear" is not covered and charge an arm and a leg on repairs. So, the camera is great and works well but if you expect to use it very frequently - which I do since I use it daily for business - you should probably look for something more reliable and designed for volume use.
