I always dreamt of a canon camera and I was searching for a good price-performance relationship for years. After my baby was born it got urgent. In the end I purchased this camera from amazon. The pictures are almost perfect. Why "almost"?: I just need to read the manual through till the end, I believe that then the pictures will be ideal. I reccomend it to everyone, who can not afford a Professional Machine and who does not like nikon's "very realistic" picture catch (like me). I used Nikon, it was also ok, but this is a matter of taste.Digital camera Review: Amazing!

I'm absolutely amazed by this little camera! The photos are great but the HD video is absolutely astonishing!!! Great aluminum body and feels very sturdy. Fast action for a point and shoot. Works great with my Mac and the video quality off the camera is just great.
Can't go wrong with this one or with Canon in general. Had problems with a previous 4 year old camera and their service was immediate.
Canon, you are one of my favorite companies!!! Great camera and great price!
Digital camera Review: Amazingly good image quality from a "spy" camera

I have a Lumix LX-3 for creative photography. It is a superb camera, but it does not fit in a jeans pocket, so I decided to get a SD780 as it is absolutely tiny, much smaller than my cell phone or my wallet. And as the saying goes, the best camera is the one you have with you!
For its size, the SD780 takes excellent images. I use it on full automatic setting as a point and shoot, and while the image quality is not quite up to LX-3 standards, it is pretty amazing.
I recently was on Amelia Island and took a bicycle ride to the salt marsh. I slipped the SD780 in my pocket (I can take this camera everywhere and anywhere since it is so tiny) and ended up taking a photo of the salt marsh that was so good, I had it enlarged and framed and hung up on my wall. I am very, very picky about my photography and I never thought I would frame and hang an image taken from such a tiny camera. The folks at the camera store could not believe this image came from the SD780. So it has the capability of taking amazingly good images.
Battery life is exceptional, much better than my LX-3. I've had the SD780 for a year now, and the only issue is it sometimes makes some odd noises, but I am thinking this is related to the battery getting low. At least I hope that is the reason!

I write this not really to review the canon camera, but rather to talk about my amazon experience. I purchased the canon 780is for my wife for Christmas. She loved it. I thought it looked great, and took remarkable pictures especially in comparison with my 7 year old 4 mega pixel canon A520. After Christmas we took a trip to Coronado, CA and we were taking pictures while on a bike ride around the island. At one point the camera was dropped, while on and with the lens out. The camera landed right on the lens and jammed it in a way that it would not go back into the camera body, making the camera inoperable.
I emailed amazon when we got home and told them exactly how the camera was dropped and is now inoperable. To my surprise and excitement, amazon emailed back in about 45 minutes to say that they had placed an order for the exact same camera to replace my broken model. Just like that. Pretty amazing customer service policy if you asked me. My new camera has arrived and my old damaged camera is being sent back to amazon.
Customer service like this is what builds great companies. I will be visiting amazon for all of my online product shopping from this point on. Thanks amazon. I'm spreading the word.

After almost 100 reviews, what is there to add?? Most of the 4/5 star reviews here are accurate.
This is a great camera. Amazing features packed into an unbelievably small package. I want to stress; this is a SMALL camera. Yes, it does easily fit into your shirt pocket. If you have it in your pant's pocket you will not even know you're carrying it. You might even lose it in your purse.
Dare I say it -it's almost TOO small.
Since it is so small, I want to add the warning if you have large fingers this might not be the camera for you. I have relatively small hands and fingers, for a man, and I have some difficulty operating all the buttons and functions. You will find yourself using your fingernails to operate this camera.
Other than the smallness of the buttons, this is one amazing piece of technology.
Minus one star for difficulty with button/function operation.
