Digital camera reviews of Canon PowerShot SD780IS 12.1 MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom and 2.5-inch LCD (Black)

Digital camera Review: An excellant camera
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased this camera for taking pictures of our products. The camera it replaced did not take very good photo's especially the lettering on labels etc. This camera does a fantastic job, it is so easy to use. You don't have any settings to monkey around with, it works great on auto, all you do is point and click, and presto you have a crystal clear image, especially any lettering. Another feature I like is the battery. It lasts quite awhile. Our old camera took 2 AAA batteries which don't last long especially if you use the zoom and flash features. I would recommend this little Cannon camera to everyone.

Digital camera Review: Another great Canon except for MOV movie format. :(
Summary: 2 Stars

I have had numerous Canon Digital Elph series cameras. This is a step up in most respects.

Pros:
-Plug-n-play card recognition allows other programs (and you) to access images directy
-Compact and hardened. I through it in my front jeans pocket without worrying about damage.

Cons:
-MOV file format is not PC friendly. E.g., Picasa does not recognize Canon's variant of MOV, so you must use Canon's tool to download pictures and movies
-Canon's output directory is not specifiable when importing images so you either always have to use this tool or find another tool that likes MOV files.
-DON'T LOSE YOUR CD. This has always been a pain with Canon. You cannot go to their website and get the software. You must save that CD for 5 years or more. Now that you can access the files like an external drive, this is not a killer, but it is still a very undesirable aspect of the Canon Utilities approach.
-Canon keeps switching batteries. Don't count on buying the newest Canon in a few years and being able to use you extra batteries and chargers. Canon seems to change them very every year or two.

Overall, I still like the Elph series. Because of the MOV movie format, I cannot suggest this particular Elph.

Digital camera Review: Auto macro and manual eye-piece are good
Summary: 5 Stars

O.K. so there are 14M Canon micro Camera's available, this is 12M.

I need the manual optical eye viewer, there are too many outdoor activities in bright sun where the LCD screen is not good enough and barely visable. I would prefer to see Canon keep at least one Elph series Camera with this option. Many do not need it but many outdoor fans do. This is the current highest pixel model w/eye-piece.

The camera's auto settings are very cool especially when you get close to an object and the Macro automatically kicks in. This is a newer feature over the older Canon Elph series.

Love the Camera and selected it over newer models. I would pick it over again.

Digital camera Review: Awesome
Summary: 5 Stars

Great form factor (small, sleek), beautiful HD video, great low-light pictures. This camera is really the full package for the average camera user (obviously, if you're pro or obsessed with cameras you need to get like the Nikon D700). But even one of my pro friends was impressed and was like "where did you get that, I want one!" I have the red version and bought a second black one as a gift, also from Amazon. Shipping was on time and condition was new from Pavillion electronics. Very happy with this purchase.

Digital camera Review: Awesome Little Camera
Summary: 4 Stars

This is my 10th digital camera. I own variety of different brands of digital cameras for different shooting conditions ranging from underwater Sony camera to Nikon SLR.

The size is very compact. The camera takes awesome pictures with very good metering. The dynamic face tracking ensures all the faces are in focus with evenly balance exposure.

Pictures at highest resolution are not as sharp, with some distortion.
However, the 12MP is a bit over kill for me. It's a waste of storage space and difficult to post or e-mail.

This camera is perfect for a night out with friends. I will probably use something with bigger lense for my travel.

Overall rating is excellent, for everyday use. It is definitely a "BUY"!
