Digital camera reviews of Canon PowerShot SD780IS 12.1 MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom and 2.5-inch LCD (Black)Digital camera Review: Best digital camera I've ever owned Summary: 5 Stars
This Canon is the best digital camera I've ever owned! I've been waiting for a digital camera that shoots great HD H.264 video and this one does the trick. It's overall still quality is that of a good consumer digital camera so you'll see artifacts when zooming in closely. Night shots are good for consumer cameras but not excellent.
One issue I've discovered on my Canon SD780is is that there are strange vertical lines sometimes in video mode if the camera is in direct sunlight. However, I can't lower the rating level since everything else is so excellent at a $200 price level!
Digital camera Review: Best point and shoot canon Summary: 5 Stars
If your reading this, I suggest you buy this camera NOW! Best canon of all and I've owned a few!
Digital camera Review: Best point-n-shoot camera available today! Summary: 5 Stars
As an avid photographer I value having a camera that takes good pictures, which is why I bought a Canon 40D with an L series lens and three other IS USM lenses, along with a monopod, tripod, bag, filters, etc.
Then the economic crisis hit me and I became strapped for cash, so I sold it all on ebay (I hated to do it, but had no choice).
This left me camera-less, so I looked for an inexpensive point-n-shoot. After hours and hours of research I decided on the Powershot SD780 IS and must say this thing has exceeded my expectations in every way possible. I can not believe such a small, lightweight camera can shoot video and 12 mega pixel images. With a 4GB card, shooting at 2592 x 1944 (and it goes up to 4000 x 3000 and 4000 x 2248 for wide shoot, which really are wide) I can take 2677 photos before I have to empty it (not that I would ever let it build up to that).
I'll skip all the features and details (you can read that on your own at the Canon website), but will say you will NOT be disappointed. The images are crisp, clear and always in focus. You have a plethora of scene settings to choose from, but just set it on auto and let it decide how to shoot. I guess that's what they mean by "Point-n-shoot". My favorite thing about this is how small it is! Fits right in my pocket (and is smaller than my Droid phone). I bought a belt holster on eBay for $7 and now my camera is always with me.
I also used the Amazon credit card and got $40 off, so I paid $169 for this! Talk about a bargain.
This is 5 stars all the way!
April 2010 Update: I bought a new Canon 50D with all the lens for those "professional" shots, but I STILL use this PnS camera for quick shots and because it's so portable. I find that even with $4,000 worth of professional equipment, I still find myself using this PnS - that images are REALLY good, especially outdoors.
Digital camera Review: Blurry indoor photos Summary: 2 Stars
The size and weight of this camera are great. It's exactly what my wife wanted for Christmas. Unfortunately, this camera does not take good photos compared to our previous cannon's. It definitely has major focusing problems in indoor environments where our old cameras never had a problem. We're in our 20's and are tech savvy so it's not user error. Tried several different settings. Tried steadying the camera as best as possible. We also have it paired with the fastest available memory card. I have a dozen blurry wedding shower photos to prove how much this camera sucks. Also, the colors seem off in indoor environments. Once you bring this camera outdoors everything is fine unless its overcast. Again, it screwed up a lot of outdoor graduation photos.
We thought it was our particular camera so we returned it for a replacement and the second one is a little better but still nowhere near clear. Disappointing and a waste of $200. I am astonished other people are rating this camera so high. I'm about ready to throw this in the trash can and try a different brand.
Digital camera Review: Bought first at Best Buy a year ago- after 3000 clicks I choose to give my Mom the same. Summary: 4 Stars
Great experience overall. hardly any picture that come out blurred. I first bought this camera from Best Buy and was surprised at the rating of 4.9/5. The price was superb as well, the display large and crisp.I still use the same old camera all the time. My mom recently asked for a camera and I had no other choice but to get her the same. Best Buy doesn't sell it anymore.
Learning curve is not too steep.you can play around in the manual setting as well which add flavor to your clicks.
This camera has been sharing precious moment of life. and i felt obliged to write about it. & thus my first review
HD video option is no doubt needs a extra review - Amazing
NB" Only drawback is the camera doesn't take "as" good picture in zoom mode. ( I don't use zoom mode)
