Digital camera reviews of Canon PowerShot SD790IS 10MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom

Digital camera Review: Worth the money
Summary: 5 Stars

I've had it for 8 months now. It's a good camera. Especially the battery is supper long. The screen also very good. Recommend everybody that not requiring very pro pics get this camera. Just 1 small problem, it's not very easy to learn and use all of its features.

Digital camera Review: Died after 3.5 weeks, of which 1 of it was in use and the rest turned off
Summary: 3 Stars

The vendor (Pavilion) was very good at shipping it as promised, I paid a little extra to get it the next day so no complaints there. I went to Chicago and used it for a week. I'm no camera expert but the pictures and video came out very crisp and the quality was better than I had expected. Very happy with the extra options as well. I had taken some pictures in the park with lots of greenery and the foliage selection does indeed make a difference. The colors were just so natural and crisp when compared to the regular portrait option. I also liked the Color accent where only one color is shown and the rest is in black and white. This gives the photos a nice artistic touch. The camera was also very good at taking pictures with not much light, something my other camera (Kodak) had trouble with. This thing starts up very quick, seriously about half a second after pressing the power button it's ready so you won't have trouble at getting that unexpected picture during your picture taking. I highly recommend getting a Class 6 card because it cuts the time of copying pictures and video by about half the time.

Now, for the unfortunate...

I was planning on taking my new camera (mind you this is a few weeks later) so I turned it on when all of a sudden the LCD display showed snow and it shut off on me. I figured well, the battery might have run out of juice and I was a little concerned because the lens stayed out. No worries, I charged the battery for about an hour, just enough to get the lens back in. Popped the battery back in, hit the On/Off button...nothing. The camera was dead. I do remember a canon having the same symptom but can't remember the model number. I purchased the camera on May 26 and this happened on June 25 so I immediately sent for an RMA request and packaged the camera and would send it out the next day.

Amazon was at no fault and made the return process extremely simple. I was given a refund for the total amount PLUS what I had paid to have it shipped to their facility! I'll be getting another Canon for sure just not this model.

Digital camera Review: Mostly great but always have red eye issues
Summary: 4 Stars

Not sure if anyone else has this problem but even with the no-red-eye mode turned on all of my pictures have horrible red eye. I've tried the red-eye correction post processing feature and it works maybe 50% of the time, and only at the right distances. I've also tried turning it off and same issue. Besides do I really have time to go and touch up tons of photos when my other cameras don't have this problem? Anyone else have this problem and find a setting combination to fix it?

Everything else about it is great for a pocket point&shoot, just don't use it for night-time photos of people without great lighting.

Digital camera Review: Great Reliable Camera
Summary: 5 Stars

I've had this camera for about 6 months now. It is a great little camera that is small enough to go anywhere, but packs enough MP's to take poster sized pictures. I've had two previous versions of the PowerShot, one being the 750. I've purchased my 3rd one for a reason.

Digital camera Review: Too many flaws
Summary: 2 Stars

I purchased the canon powershot SD790IS 10 MP and have owned it for six months. Initially, the camera was great. I purchased this camera because of its sleek design and small size. I recently bought a canon 5D Mark II and love it. The SD790IS was my casual camera for events when I didn't want to bring my 5D. The main problems with the SD790IS are:

*Red Eye is really bad with the flash. It can be corrected but not always.
*The sliding plastic button to change over to video is cheaply constructed. It broke on my camera, I cannot use the video mode.
*The video quality was poor anyway and far inferior to HD video
*The shutter speed is WAY too slow. Continous shots are impossible with the built-in flash, so many great shots are lost.
*Heavy artifacts with flash use and low light conditions. This cannot be corrected for and has ruined several great shots.

I love canon products but I do not recommend this product. Although it is capable of taking great photos it has too many flaws. Canon needs to produce a more reliable (and faster)camera if it wants to lead this market.
