Digital camera reviews of Canon PowerShot SD870IS 8MP Digital Camera with 3.8x Wide Angle Optical Image Stabilized Zoom (Black)Digital camera Review: Awesome Summary: 5 Stars
This is just a great camera. I take it pretty much everywhere I go because you never no when you are going to need to take a picture of something. With the big display on the back it makes it that much eaiser to view the pictures after you have taken them and while you take them.
Digital camera Review: Awesome Camera Summary: 5 Stars
This camera is totally awesome. From the first day I received it. I just love it. Great shots up close and far away. What a great compact camera to take on a trip. We went to WDW and talk about some awesome pictures of the animals through the glass and no cages. Great camera!!!
Digital camera Review: Awesome camera for MOM's! Summary: 5 Stars
I have to say going from a larger Nikon 8700 to this hand held is wonderful. As a matter of fact it takes even better pictures than I could have ever hoped for. My 2 year old is constantly on the go, not to mention usually in terrible lighting situations. This camera is amazing and I love the picture quality. I am by no means a professional but as a parent I cannot and will not leave without this camera. Also, the video capability played a large role in purchasing this camera. I am taking really great video's and not missing anything. Plus, I don't have to lug around two different electronics! I would recommend this to everyone and plan on buying it!
Digital camera Review: Be Forewarned Summary: 3 Stars
I had to return this camera because of an inherent design flaw. If the camera is in a case, and the camera is somehow turned on, the lens will jam against the case and will not retract and the camera is shot. Not sure if the 880 addresses this issue but the 870 is not designed well. The camera took great shots and movies (when it worked). I ended up buying the Panasonic TZ5 - larger camera but with a 10x zoom, wide angle and 720p movies (with optical zoom)
Digital camera Review: Best Point and Shoot Camera Out there. Summary: 5 Stars
I recently upgraded my 5 year old Sony Cybershot to this camera and I'm more than pleased. I really spent some time reading reviews (between dpreviews and dcresource) and my final two choices were down to the Powershot SD870IS and the Lumix DMC-TZ5K. The 10x zoom on the Lumix almost had me but by reading some reviews here I heard the Canon had better night and low light shots.
-It's compact and light yet feels solid in your hand and also quite easy to operate.
-The menu wasn't hard to figure out and the buttons are a decent size. There is a surprising amount of custom settings for a camera this size.
-Battery life goes a long way too. I bought an extra just for convenience but I can go 200-250 day shots easy before I get the low battery warning.
- Matched up with a cheap tripod you can take some great night shots with ISO 80 and a long (5 - 10 - 15 second) exposure.
- The color on this camera is amazing! And with the vivid color setting on it really makes for some deep and rich blues and greens. There are other cool color settings like color accent and color switch that are fun to play with.
- Video is great as well at 30fps. You can make videos as long as you want. It would have been nice to have a stereo mic but that's me just being super picky.
- The 3" LCD display is beautiful and puts other cameras to shame. It makes for some great previewing. There is a great preview feature that detects faces in a picture then shows you a closeup directly after taking a shot so you can easily see if anyone was blinking or smiling. Very cool.
- It has been mentioned here before but you need to be a little careful with the power button when the camera is in the case. It can be easy sometimes to turn it on inside the case and the lens will try to extend. Yikes. Just be careful when you put it away and you'll be fine.
You won't be disappointed by this camera! Feel free to browse my Picasa site to have a look at some of the photos I've taken so far.
