I upgraded to this camera from a Kodak v550. My sister just came back after 3 yrs in Sweden and she has this Canon. I was amazed at the size, picture quality and the huge view screen. One thing I was advised to do is apply the clear screen protector and I did that...it was effortless. My old digital got nasty wear marks on it that would not come off so I am preventing that this time. I recommend it and they come with a cleaning cloth that fits great in the case I got with it. I didn't order mine from Amazon, but the place I did order it from had a bundle deal that consisted of the cam, a case, 2 GB card, a monopod and a longer life battery. I bought the screen protector extra...worth the $3.99 for sure. I love the vividness of the photos and the ease of downloading to my computer. I had the 800IS and upgraded to this mostly for the added megapixel since I use this for professional pics in the OR. It has a WIDE angle lens for a compact camera. Color is great. I have used pictures from this camera in publications. Although there is no comparison at many levels between this and my Canon 1D MarkII, the final picture is just as good if your technique is right. the screen is BIG on this unit. The Canon PowerShot series is definitely the best mini camera series available in the market. I bought the SD870 for my sister, and I have the SD850 myself. When it comes to taking landscape photos, the SD870 is better due to the wide screen, but I definitely prefer the micro shots of the SD850.
So I would pick either the SD850 or the SD870 (I tried many others!! They are the best!) according to what the type of photos you take more often.... Both are excellent!

I already own the SD750IS so I got this so my wife could have the new one and I would take the SD750. I like the larger screen on the new SD870. The own off switch at the top is also nice. It seems much faster at turning on and off than the 750 so that is also a plus.
All in all, it is the same size, it is easy to use. Oh yes, one very nice improvement is that it tells you the battery level. No more getting caught out with a battery that dies unexpectedly.
I bought a spare battery with this camera because I did not know they had added that feature so for 1 battery users, they will know when it is time to recharge :)
You will be very happy with this camera. You can't beat it for the money spent. I originally bought the SD750 after reading the review on www.kenrockwell.com .
