Digital camera reviews of Canon PowerShot SD870IS 8MP Digital Camera with 3.8x Wide Angle Optical Image Stabilized Zoom (Silver)Digital camera Review: Better than anticipated Summary: 5 Stars
Ok, let me start out by saying that I did not plan on getting a new digi-cam this year.
My last camera a Sony DSC-T50, was lost. We looked for weeks, and after we failed to find it, I did some research and purchased the SD870 IS. Murphy's Law in full effect, the day after we got the Canon, we found the Sony. Now to return the Canon, I would have took a hit on a restocking fee. So we did some tests.
We always thought the T50 took great shots, and was fast and easy to use. Well...we were blown away with just how much better the SD870 IS works. Pictures came out more detailed, with more accurate color.
One top-notch feature that I feel is far understated is the red-eye correction. The camera uses the face recognition to see faces, and remove the red when you shoot. Should it miss, you can post-process the image in the camera and remove it after. It works very well, and the camera doesn't do the annoying 4-5 flash trick. (I always hate that)
Ok, enough yapping, here's the real meat:
Pros:
Image quality is simply Amazing
The Wide Angle Lens helps out greatly
The 3" screen
The Image stabilization works very well (I tend to move alot)
The face recognition works fast and easy
RED-EYE CORRECTION
Solid Build
Cons:
No Optical Viewfinder (ABSOLUTELY no loss to me, the lest 3 digi-cams I owned had no optical viewfinder)
Overall:
I couldn't be happier. We sold the Sony, kept the Canon. We took a loss on the Sony, becuase it was only a year old, but gained far more. BUT...the main point of a camera is the pictures it takes, and this one is top notch.
Digital camera Review: Beware of the lens error Summary: 1 Stars
While is working this camera is great, but i was hopping that work more than two months, now i have a "Lens Error" and is totally useless.
Digital camera Review: Blurrry! Summary: 1 Stars
After my (Great)Canon S60 fell for the last time I decided it was time for a new Canon. Because i have a 10D, and a 30D as well and they are great too, i am a canon man. That was a $300.00 mistake. every other picture is Blurry (with the image stablizer on or off). and i was just looking / comparing the old picrures by the S60, All the SD870is pic.s seemed blurry. It's time to give Nikon a chance. H.
Digital camera Review: Buyer Beware - Canon does not back up this product Summary: 1 Stars
I've had my 870is for about two years. It was my third Canon compact camera (and my fourth digital Canon as I also have a Rebel) as I've generally had good luck and results with them. I bought it for the wide angle lens and the stabilizer but I also liked the the 8mp sensor, which is all you need in a camera of this size, and having some minor ability to manipulate the camera in manual mode. I've generally been pleased with it.
However about eight months ago I started having an artifact on the LCD screen. This artifact turned into a grey circle. Now I have two gray circles and the camera has become nearly unusuable. Since I don't always use a case, although one would expect to find a pocketable camera in a pocket, I thought that this problem may have been something I caused even though none of my prior cameras had this problem.
Now I'm finding out (a) that many people have had the same problem with this camera and (b) that Canon is not willing to do anything about it of the camera is out of warranty.
This is very disappointing to me. Since I have to buy a new camera since this one is nearly unusable I am going to be looking at, and probably buying, a camera from another manufacturer. This is entirely unacceptable.

TOOK CAMERA FOR FIRST TRY TO KOREA AND CHINA. LARGE VIEWER MADE IT EASY TO TAKE SOME GREAT SHOTS. HAVEN'T DISCOVERED ALL THE THINGS THE CAMERA CAN DO SINCE THIS WAS OUR FIRST OUTING, BUT TRANSFERRING PICS TO COMPUTER OR TV WENT EASILY.
