Digital camera reviews of Canon PowerShot SD870IS 8MP Digital Camera with 3.8x Wide Angle Optical Image Stabilized Zoom (Silver)Digital camera Review: CAUTION: wide angle--you'll get what you ask for Summary: 4 Stars
just got this camera "sight unseen" as an upgrade from an older casio, as i couldn't find it locally to give it a test drive. as i like to travel a lot, i thought the wide angle would be a great addition. but in reality, most of my photos are of my family. i have to admit, when i grabbed the camera to take a quick snapshot of my 1 year old, i was startled to see so much background. i'm used to a tighter crop, and realizing i would probably spend a lot of time zooming in despite being just a few feet away, i've decided to bite the bullet, return this one, and get the 850is instead.
i've still given it 4stars. the picture and response were great, and i'm looking forward to the 850is. just ask yourself if you REALLY want that wide angle... it's NOT for everyone. i almost wish i'd read a similar review, so here's my service to anyone else sitting on the fence...
Digital camera Review: CHDK pushes this camera way over the top Summary: 5 Stars
By now - you already know enough about this camera to know why it's best in it's class (small size, 28mm equivalent lens, nice screen) - but there is one thing that you might not know about... This camera can have way more advanced features (that are constantly being developed)
If you google CHDK - you will find that there is an entire crew of hackers devoted to making Canon cameras more powerful. CHDK has been ported to this camera (Not to brag, but I actually helped with the porting) - and without any changes to the camera's firmware itself (the hacked firmware loads from the SD card) - you can enable way more powerful features such as RAW shooting, a live histogram, a scripting language (motion detection... etc), and even has games... Also - the CHDK disables the annoying lens-in-the-pocket problem other reviewers have mentioned.
Digital camera Review: Camera over the top! Summary: 5 Stars
One of the most impressive small cameras ever! The quality of photos is amazing. I bought this camera for my (teen) daughter. I have been in Advertising for many years and now ask her to take pictures for my projects and ads. This is our fourth Canon Camera in the past four years and it's great!
Digital camera Review: Can't beat the Canon SD series! Summary: 5 Stars
Another great Canon point and shoot.
We were hesitant with getting a camera without a viewfinder, since in the past we have liked having them when in high light areas (like at the beach etc) since sometimes its hard to see the screen.
This is not the case with the huge, bright, and crisp screen on this camera. It has been bright enough in all situations to not need a view finder. One of our friends had the same fear...and they have been very happy with their sd870 IS.
Great battery life so far also!
Love the button preview when you lightly touch the touchpad. Good when you don't know what the buttons do. :)
Highly recommended camera!
Digital camera Review: Canon 870 Power shot Camera Summary: 5 Stars
Everyone had been raving about what a great camera Canon makes so I decided to buy one before my trip to Thailand and China. It was everything everyone said; easy to operate, lightweight, excellent features like the ability to take panoramas and movies.
I would recommend this camera to anyone.
