I bought this camera December 15 2009.
January 21, 2010 the automatic lens cover malfuntioned. Cannon will not cover under warranty- Wants $ 160 for repair. Says it was broken due to "mishandling". It was kept in a padded case, never dropped.
It failed due to faulty workmanship or design.
I have had good cannon products in the past. This is not one of them.
I am also surprised at their response.

Great Camera buy it here. Found it for $229 at "Camera Giants" super deal uh! No way! Ordered camera then was told to call for order verification. The Rep. then tried to sell me another battery because he claimed the original would only last 20 minutes! Battery cost $99.00. Then he tried to sell me more memory cost $149.00. When I explained that I own numerous Canon cameras and am well aware of what might be needed he quickly told me it would be a couple of weeks before they would ship the camera! I called the next day to check on the status and was told it was back ordered and wasn't expected until late June! I cancelled the order.
You get what you pay for stay away from Camera Giants and stick with Amazon....

I travelled to Switzerland last Spring and one of the people in my group had the SX 200IS. I was so impressed with her photo shots that I could not get, that I purchased this SX 200 IS camera for a trip to China, replacing a previous model Canon that did not have the 12x wide angle zoom. I was amazed at what this camera could do and during my trip in China my co-travelers could not believe the great shots that I was able to get. My camera was stolen and I have just replaced it with the same model in spite of many sales people trying to convince me to upgrade to HD. After researching this camera and reading rave reviews, I replaced my point and shoot with this model. This camera makes beautiful crisp outdoor pics. But like any point and shoot, indoors, if the subject is too far away for the flash to reach(approx 15ft), not going to get the shot. I was however able to make some beautiful video of my child's recital from the back of the room, great zoom for video. Sound quality great. Pop up flash is a bit of a bother as it pops up everytime the camera is turned on. Easily hooks up to hdtv for viewing. A little bulkier than I had expected.
