I have worked my way through at least 5 cameras, used while traveling and for recording family events. I always wanted at least a little more zoom capacity, while retaining clarity and ease of taking pictures. This one fulfills my wishes perfectly, without the size and inconvenience (to me, at least) of putting on additional lens, etc. The software that came with the camera also provides me with an easy way to trim, reduce red-eye and a number of other features. This Canon PowerShot well deserves the 5 stars I've awarded it. Incidentally, I discovered this particular model while talking to a fellow bus traveler in Mount Rushmore....we were so impressed with the viewing surface. M. Had the camera for about six months now. Very happy at this point that I bought an extended warranty.
Anyway, I'm not sure if its a problem with just my camera, but from day one I have had problems with the camera not focusing correctly. If anything is in motion at all the picture is blurry. Even staged portraits often come out blurry. I love the zoom ability of the camera, but couple it with the focus problems and it is darn near useless. When the pictures do come out, they come out very nice, but this camera does have problems with low light situations. Additionally, the battery life sucks. I shot around 100-120 pictures in around 1.5 hours and had to change the battery... sounds like a lot of pictures, but really its isn't when half of them are out of focus.
Last weekend, the camera started having other problems. You look at the display on the back and the image on it shifts left and then right over and over again. I mean big jumps that could take half your subject out of the frame. Put an ear to the camera body/lens and you can hear it constantly adjusting when it is doing this. So, returning this piece-o-junk today... not going to get another one if I can help it.

I am experienced photographer with successful history of international competitions who was on a market for smaller camera which could travel with me most of time. I own also sx110is and say it is very decent cam for the money. I read reviews about sx200is and ordered it from Amazon indirectly (I earned some points with thankyou program). I must say after I received the cam ( about 2 weeks) I can't believe the level of technology and finesse Canon packed into this cam.
First of all it produces nice images with grate picture quality. On ISO levels below 400, in good lighting conditions it is better or equals than Pentax k10d!!!! I shot number of shots on the same focus length and I was amazed to see images coming out of this came. I need a camera for mostly nice lighting days and this baby outshoots any other camera in 12m level! Yeh, you can get some slightly nicer shots with DSLR setup of $1200 body and $3000 worth of lenses but man, let givea credit where the credit is due!
The physical quality of cam is another song to sing! It is real JAPAN made cam (sx110is) is China made, and while I like 110 a lot for its value and capacity, the all metal body of sx200is, its amazing "clicking wheel", the lens are out of this world. If you buy DSLR, to match this level of optical performance, you must be prepared to cash out a lot!
Video out of this cam retires to hell my little camera I was using. In good lighting the quality of HD 720P out of this baby is to be seen to be believed. I really appreciate that canon went toward smart 720p in this cam and not 1080i for many reasons.
I must say, I am greatly thankful to Canon for making such amazing quality unit so inexpensive. I handle it in my hand as a jewel. Really amazing tool, amazing cam, outstanding engineering.

BOUGHT THIS CAMERA ON A CHANCE. I LOVE IT. TAKES GREAT PIX, ESPECIALLY GREAT FOR DARK SETTINGS AS CAMERA ADJUSTS AUTOMATICALLY WHEN SET ON AUTO MODE. GREAT PRICE FOR THE QUALITY OF PIX TAKEN.
