Digital camera reviews of Canon Rebel XS 10.1MP Digital SLR Camera with EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens (Black)

Digital camera Review: Awesome Camera!
Summary: 5 Stars

This is my first digital SLR and I can tell the difference between the small digital cameras and the SLRs. It's really easy to use and lightweight to carry wherever you go, but the most amazing part are the amazing pictures you can achieve with this camera. If you are looking for a new camera ot to upgrade from plain digital to digital SLR, this is what you are looking for!

Digital camera Review: Awesome For the Amateur
Summary: 5 Stars

In celebration of paying this baby off, I thought I'd finally share a review. When I started getting serious about photography I wanted to upgrade, so I got this camera. Let me tell you that, as amateur as I was (and still am) this was still a great choice. This camera is easy to learn but since there are many features you kind of learn as you go. For example, until about 9 months into having it, I had no idea how to take pictures using the LCD screen. I actually went on youtube and they explained it. I suppose I'm more of a learn by experience person rather than reading manuals. But since I've gotten the camera I've been reading more on photography, about light, and many other things, such as RAW image processing.

What's great about this camera? Everything. I've taken a liking to the Manual, Tv, and Av settings. I hardly ever use the automatic or other settings. The images are sharp and I've gotten a bunch of awesome photos with it. If you're starting out and have never had a dslr get this one. It isn't so complex that you can't understand it and not too simple. It's just right, I love it.

Only problems I've encountered is it has froze on me a couple times and I had to take the battery out and put it back in for it to come back on. The Auto setting is pretty annoying too, but I don't use it much anymore since I got an external flash. Great beginner's choice, excellent camera, hasn't given me any failure problems yet.

Digital camera Review: Awesome bang for the buck.
Summary: 4 Stars

I've now had my Rebel XS for easily over a year. It was my first DSLR, it is still my ONLY DSLR. I got mine with the 18-55MM Kit Lens and later purchased a Sigma 70-300MM Lens. This camera is awesome. Let me get that out of the way. It is a TRULY amazing camera, especially for its low price. It takes AMAZING pictures, even after all this time. I'm also still finding features out (Which is my fault for not reading the manual when I got it) such as the ability to make the built-in flash brighter or dimmer. The camera is incredibly easy to use out of the box. If you're new to DSLRs, you can just switch it to Auto mode and snap away. There is also different scenery modes, Program Mode, Shutter Priority Mode, Aperture Priority Mode, and full Manual (Which is what I use 90% of the time.) The camera feels very solid, and has easily withstood the bumps and bangs that a 17 year old put on it. The lens that comes with camera is still one I use today, it is a great lens (though not the best by any means). The 10MP is more then enough for most needs, though there are times I wish I could enlarge more without losing size/quality. The battery life on this camera is just amazing. I've had this thing for over a year and I've charged it maybe 3-7 times total. Some of my gripes include an ISO that only goes up to 1600, and at anything above 800, is incredibly noisy. That is pretty much my only complaint off the top of my head. This camera is amazing, for the price, cannot be beat. I'd recommend it to anyone.

Digital camera Review: Awesome, but I'd pick the XSi body only if I could go back
Summary: 4 Stars

I love this camera. Upgrading to a DLSR has made a huge difference in my photos. I had read some reviews and done some research before buying this camera, but now that I've had more experience in using it, there are a couple things I'd change if I could make this decision again. First off, I was impatient and bought the XS because they were out of the XSi where I saw a great deal on it. I didn't want to spend more though. Second, I wish I had thought about whether or not I'd want to be able to use a wireless remote to take photos because this one is not capable of that. Lastly, if I had personally exprienced the difference that the lenses would make and known that I'd want to invest in some really good lenses, I would've bought a camera body only and saved the difference to put towards better lenses.

Digital camera Review: BATTERY ISSUES
Summary: 4 Stars

I've had my Canon XS for several months now, and just starting taking photography classes, to help me better understand all the bells and whistles of photography. One problem I've run across is the battery life. I have the original battery and after fully charging it, there are only three lines of battery life when I put it in my camera. I was told by a "expert" battery distributer, the problem might be my camera. I brought a replacement battery with the same results. Does anyone have any ideas, why?? Any suggestions will be very helpful. Otherwise, I am pleased with my camera...

UPDATE: 8/24/10
SO....since I posted, I actually took my battery and camera in tow, to have an EXPERT look at it. And lo and behold, the battery is fine, I was looking at the wrong....sorry for the 4-stars......if I could change it 5-stars all the way for my Rebel Cannon XS.
