Those of you upgrading from a Point and Shoot camera can relate to the lag time between photos. We got so tired of waiting for our PNS to spool up to take another photo we finally upgraded to this DSLR. Wish I had done it 3 years ago. This Rebel is so easy to use and the pictures are great and best of all it is super fast. I am a total Neophyte when it comes to cameras; I just want a good picture. Think twice before purchasing any cameras from Canon. Check out all the 1 star ratings first!
After about 1 year of use, mine shut down and became a very expensive paperweight. I owned a Canon PowerShot S21S
and it died twice in the first 2 years ($150 per repair). Canon refuses to stand behind their products.
I think there are much better products available from other camera companies.
If you must purchase a Canon buy a 5 year warranty.

As a long time professional Videoographer, I find little time to enjoy working with fillm cameras. When my old SLR got dropped I finally broke down and got a state of the art entry level camera in digidal. Who needs all the bells and whistles if you know how to use a camera? they are all her in spades and show a lot of fore thought. There are things I would have never thought of putting on a camera, post work yes just not on the camera. It is for all who think they are going to grow into the photo job field, and will make a lot of money if the tallent is there. If not it is a low cost camera and will not break the bank if the tallent dos'nt show up later in life. I love this camera and would not want the next level up, it was more than I would ever use, I'm never going to be Jimmy Olsen, so I will keep the XS, thank you Cannon it is great.Digital camera Review: Canon Digital Rebel XS 10 Megapixel DSLR Camera

This is a great camera for someone who is moving from a point and shoot type camera to the more capable DSLR type. Focus is so much faster. Detail is much better than even my best P&S camera. I wish I would have done it years ago.
