The mechanism is essentially a lockable electrical switch with a cord and mini-phonejack. I found it too easy to accidently slide the button in lock position causing several unintended exposures. Love this little remote shutter release switch. The only thing I would want more is a little more footage. I plan to buy an extender to go along with it. This little gem is a must if you are doing Landscape, portrait or long exposure photography where photo sharpness is critical. My night photography work improved tremendously by using a remote release. The only other way around this is to use the 2 second timer to avoid camera shake (tripod of course) which slows you down. However you may miss opportunities when you need that shutter open but the timer will not allow that. This remote solves that problem. The Canon Remote Switch RS60 E3 is more than I thought it would be I am using the Canon Remote Switch as a left hand shutter button as my right hand has nerve damage. I have a L video bracket that I mount on the left side of my Canon EOS REBEL Xsi and taped the Canon Remote Switch to the L video bracket works very well.
