Digital camera reviews of Canon Speedlite 430EX II Flash for Canon Digital SLR CamerasDigital camera Review: A. Maze. Zing. Summary: 5 Stars
This flash is incredible.
I feel spoiled because I'm still a rookie with flashes. I have been concentrating on other aspects of my photography obsession - framing with really fast primes. Because of this, I haven't had much use for even the stock flash.
Also, I don't like and don't tend to trust my camera's default flash settings (Canon XS). This flash is so much smarter and more effective. EASILY worth the money.
Besides just smart automatic features, it's is FAST and STRONG.
Can't miss here.
Digital camera Review: AF ASSIST!!! Summary: 5 Stars
Best $248 I have spent on my DSLR.
The AF Assist beam alone is worth it.
I have the 270EX and it is a little toy compared to this.
5/5

Digital camera Review: Absolute Must Have Summary: 4 Stars
An off-shoe flash is one of the best investments you can buy for your SLR; before you consider anything else (battery grip, case, filters, bags) get yourself an off-camera flash. This will open up a new world of photography for you and really make your subjects pop.
Many amateur photographers will be wondering when to buy this or its more powerful big brother the Canon Speedlite 580EX II Flash for Canon EOS Digital SLR Cameras
There are few notable differences but for the novice, the 430EX is a great bargain. The 580 has:
1. Full rotating head.
2. Ability to attach a slave battery pack.
3. Acts as a master for other speedlites.
4. Is more powerful.
5. Has weather proofing.
However, if you are just starting out none of those things will matter to you because you'll spend your time getting familiar with shooting with flash; and should the time come for you to upgrade to the 580, the 430 can be used as a slave; so what's not to like?
The flash comes with a nice case, a stand and a manual. Highly recommended and an absolute bargain for the results you'll get.
Digital camera Review: Amazing upgrade from the built-in flash Summary: 5 Stars
I finally added this flash to my Rebel XTi kit. I had been disappointed with the performance of the built-in flash for some time (this was not unexpected) and I got tired of relying on fast lenses or a steady hand.
There are two big problems with the built-in flash on the XTi:
1. It is weak, weak, weak.
2. It tends to overexpose things closer to the lens in portrait type scenes.
There's no cure for #1, but #2 can be compensated for with some planning and postprocessing.
Regardless, the 430EX II fixes both issues very very well. In full auto mode, the flash did the right thing 100% of the time - no more blown out faces in shots of people! It's also (obviously) far stronger than the pop up unit so you can get reasonable reach from it -- I'd say 2-3x the usable range of the built-in flash, maybe more.
Rotating the flash head up for indirect use creates much more natural lighting than direct flash illumination, provided that you don't have very high or dark colored ceilings. If you feel that you'll be doing a lot of this sort of work, than I'd suggest going with the 580 instead. This isn't really a mark against the 430, it's just something you should keep in mind.
Overall, I'm extremely pleased with this unit. I should have added it to my kit many months ago!
Digital camera Review: Amazing! Summary: 5 Stars
If you want something lightweight and not that expensive , this is the way to good! flash photography makes a differences in my pictures. i dont think some get how important it is to have a flash when you are indoors for parties and events, but the 530ex would be a nice upgrade!
*** Maybe ill get the 530ex soon to get the full effect of wireless flash!
