Digital camera reviews of Canon Speedlite 430EX II Flash for Canon Digital SLR CamerasDigital camera Review: Awesome flash, but slave not possible with XSi Summary: 4 Stars
This flash is great for its price. It's easy to figure out for the most part, and has many options. Unfortunately, because the way XSi is built, it cannot be used as a slave flash without the proper hot shoe trigger/flash mount. This is a fault on the XSi side, not the flash side. I believe the only automatic wireless slave setup for this flash currently is the Canon 7D. Just a heads up. Otherwise, great flash.
Digital camera Review: Awesome flash, reasonable price. Summary: 5 Stars
This flash does an excellent job with my Canon Rebel XT. This should be the second accessory a budding photographer purchases, the first being a Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II Camera Lens (if you're a Canon user, of course). That lens, this flash, and any Canon body, will give you portrait pictures that are extremely professional looking (assuming you know how to use the camera's settings).
Definitely recommend this.
Digital camera Review: Beginner DSLR shooter and it's already helping! Summary: 5 Stars
I am a beginner DSLR photographer. Initially I started using only built-in flash. The addition of this external flash yields much better lighting and photos! It's amazing what it can do indoors. Also, it got rid of the circular shadow at the bottom of my photos. Caused by the lens blocking the built-in flash due to it's low position. The external flash higher position prevents this.
Digital camera Review: Best money I've spent on photography toys! Summary: 5 Stars
I bought the 430 EX II on recommendation of a friend. If you've never used a shoe-mounted flash before, this thing will amaze you! Built-in flash is harsh and stark. (I am using a Canon T1i (500D)) The 430 EX II provides a much more gentle, soft light, even head-on, than the built-in flash. If you take advantage of its tilt and swivel features, you can get some amazing flash pictures. It is also powerful enough to light up an entire 14x16 room. My built-in would only light the center of the frame, leaving the outer edges in progressive darkness. The difference between the 430EX II and the built-in is flash is just huge. This is a powerful, versatile flash unit. OH! I almost forgot to mention how fast is recycles. With fresh alkaline AA batteries this flash was able to keep up with the burst mode of my T1i! That is 3.4 flash pictures per second! (Be careful - limit this activity to 10 or so frames, then give the flash a chance to cool off.) The best my built flash would do is about one photo every two seconds, under the same indoor-incandescent-lighting-evening conditions. It also has FP mode, which I intend to use a lot! I was able to take pictures indoors with flash at 1/2000 of a second. Great for capturing my newest kitties playing around.
Digital camera Review: Best option for the price. Summary: 4 Stars
This is a very versatile flash. I have used it both in the studio and as fill light outdoors. My favorite feature is the White balance compensation. It can destablise white balance in respective frames during continuous shooting. The only ( very small )issue I have with the flash is the weight but weight is just one of those things you deal with when using an external flash.
