Digital camera reviews of Case Logic PDVK-10 7 to 10-Inch In-Car Portable DVD Player Case (Black)Digital camera Review: A great case for the price. Summary: 5 Stars
It was exactly what I thought it would be. It worked well in our 2000 Town & Country between the front seats and all three of the kids could see it well. Its also nice to have the compartment for movie storage in the back. It has quite a variety of configurations as well.
Digital camera Review: An O.K. DVD Case Summary: 4 Stars
This case was not as roomy as I had expected. It looks great & I'm sure it is a nice case, but it just wasn't able to hold all of the accessories that I wanted to keep with my DVD player. I plan on giving it as a "You Pick Em" Christmas gift this year. I know it will be one of the first gifts to be chosen because it is that nice. If you don't need a lot of room to store a portable DVD player & a few accessories, then this would be a perfect case for you. It just didn't work for me.
Digital camera Review: Case Better than expected Summary: 5 Stars
I recently purchased a CUV and almost got the 8-inch built-in/drop down DVD player. That would obstruct my view in the rear-view mirror. Plus, retail, the DVD player added $2K to the price of the car.
As an alternative, I looked into portable TV's with this case. I ended up getting a Viore PLC10V49 10.2-Inch Portable Widescreen LCD TV along with this case. This way I could move it to my wife's vehicle. The case is very well constructed, and although designed for a DVD player, works well for a portable TV. The TV fits perfectly in the case, and is easy to transfer between vehicles. This kind of case is great for 2+ kids to view one TV. I have 3 kids, so is better than the 2-headrest options.
Digital camera Review: Case for DVD Summary: 3 Stars
We use the case for viewing in the car with a dvd player. The set up was pretty simple, but my car didn't have anything under our seats for hooking up the final two straps. We hooked them to the cup holders and it still held the dvd player still.
Digital camera Review: Comparison to WDEC-10 Summary: 4 Stars
I know someone who has the WDEC-10 also from CaseLogic so I bought the PDVK-10 instead. The main differences are:
No headphone splitter in the PDVK-10
Two mounting positions for the PDVK-10 vs one
Different top strap and mounting
It was disappointing when I found out the PDVK-10 doesn't have the headphone wire/splitter that comes built-in with the PDVK-9 and WDEC-10. This is a very useful feature and helps when connecting/disconnecting it from the car. Too bad they decided to take it out.
The PDVK-10 has two mounting positions - vertical and L-shape. The WDEC-10 only has the L-shape. In order to use the vertical mounting position, the DVD player or netbook must be able to fold flat otherwise the angle of the screen might point down. I like the vertical position better because the screen is higher and you can adjust the angle of your player. The case comes with a skinny black strap that goes through either the top or bottom set of holes to secure the player/netbook. In the L-shape position, the strap may block part of the screen depending on how low the screen is near the hinge. The problem is if you move the strap lower, the whole player/netbook flops down because the top of screen is not supported. I think the case should come with 2 of these straps and ideally should be clear. I was thinking of using some string or fishing line to secure my netbook in the L-shaped position but I rather use my DVD player in the vertical position instead. The screen angle of the player in L-shaped position is not really adjustable but I thought of wedging a piece of foam between the back of the case and the back of the seats if necessary. There are two compartments in the case and you can actually put the player in the back compartment for vertical mounting if you don't mind taking it out to change the DVD and the controls being blocked.
The WDEC-10 uses 4 straps that hook to 4 rings on the case. The hooks on either side of the straps are plastic that you pinch to open. The PDVK-10 has one long strap for the top and two for the bottom. The top strap is designed to go over each of two headrests like a lasso and then tightened. The strap goes through a flap inside the case that uses velcro to make a long loop. I worry about the strength of the velcro but it does have a lot of surface area and you shouldn't have to undo the velcro once you have it set. When you dismount the case, you loosen the strap on both sides, take it over the headrests and stuff the strap into the case. I like this design over the WDEC-10. The bottom two straps are similar to the WDEC-10. Depending on your car, it can be hard to find a place to hook them. I have no desire to mount the case behind one seat but it should be possible.
This case is not perfect for a cheap solution but if you want perfect you can't be cheap.
