Digital camera Review: Ceiva delivers
Summary: 5 Stars

I've had my Ceiva for several months now and I've never had so much fun with a technical gadget. Probably because it's so easy to use -- just plug it into a power outlet and the coupler into a phone jack and set up your account and you're ready to go in just a few minutes. Not like having to learn how to program anything.

I did some research on frames before I selected Ceiva and I'm glad I did. The other digital frames either aren't connected to the internet, so they require more work. Also, the other frames' casings were dark, reddish wood that didn't go with my light-wood furniture decor (Ceiva's is neutral black), and the picture size was really tiny.

Ceiva does exactly what it promises -- it lets me view my digital pictures in my living room. It's like having 20 picture frames in one because I have it set to slideshow mode and see a different picture every minute. And they're not just my own pictures. My friends and family, who've been emailing me pictures of their lives all around the country, are now sending their digitial pictures to my Ceiva to keep me in touch with what's going on in their lives.

I love this concept, and I was excited to see it's on sale for the holidays. We're going to get them as gifts from the family for my grandparents.

Digital camera Review: Ceiva delivers
Summary: 5 Stars

My Ceiva, a gift to my 80 year old parents in Arizona is my way for them to be included in family internet communications. Messages, cards and photos are emailed to me. I handle the formatting and Ceiva options from my computer in Oregon. The detail and color that is delivered to the frame is way better than was hoped for, consequently we are getting very creative with the photos we take initially and then manipulate in Photoshop. The grandchildren love being a part of the process.

Digital camera Review: Ceiva frame is great gift for parents, grandparents
Summary: 4 Stars

As one of the first entries in the "home Internet appliance" category, the Ceiva picture frame does well. Although a little pricey, it's well worth the money, and quite a bit less than the competing Kodak frame, and without the strings attached.

Its strong points include:

- Ease of use: Configuration and set-up is even better than straightforward, it's very, very simple. The frame's one-button operation makes photo downloads a snap and something even the most technophobic individuals can master in minutes.

- Online service: Uploading pictures is very easy -- the web site is intuitive, well-designed and easy to navigate. It was fast, easy and even kind of fun.

- Complete: The frame is well-packaged, and includes everything you need to get going out of the box very quickly. A well-written quickstart card facilitates rapid set-up.

- Picture storage: The frame stores 20 pictures, which cycle at preset intervals of your choice. The variety is nice, and combined with online picture storage -- up to 1,000 pictures in all -- that comes standard with the service, it's like having an automatic photo album on your desk.

As a first-generation device, the frame has some shortcomings, too:

- The picture quality is satisfactory, but not great. Images are viewable within about a 30-degree window, but not much more. Colors are somewhat washed out, and some images are posterized.

- The picture frame is attractive, but the black frame tends to cheapen it slightly. A natural wood frame would have been nicer.

In summary, I strongly recommend the Ceiva frame as a great gift for parents, grandparents, and family members located elsewhere. I got one for my mother as a Christmas gift, so she can receive photos from my brother and his family, and from me -- it's also a great way to distribute the images we take using our digital cameras. I spent 45 minutes preconfiguring it and preloading images so that all she has to do is plug it in and it will start displaying photos of our family. The frame has great potential to bring us all together. In short, it's a great concept that has been implemented very well.

Digital camera Review: Ceiva is Great
Summary: 4 Stars

The Ceiva digital picture prame is a great product concept. It is easy to use and works well. I bought it for grandparents in their mid-80s and configured it for them on the web. They were able to set it up at home on their own. It truly is the best gift I have ever given them (my grandmother is NOT easy to please!). They love it and thank me for it every time we speak.

I had some problems at the outset -- the first unit I purchased was completely defective. It would not even turn on. Ceiva customer service was courteous and promptly sent a replacement power adapter, but that didn't fix the problem. I eventually returned the first unit to... for replacement and the second one worked fine right out of the box.

Screen display is OK, but not great. I find it works best if you resize images to 640x480 before uploading.

The Ceiva web site is very well organized and easy to use, although I have experienced a few technical glitches from time to time.

Overall, a very good product. Hopefully falling flat-screen prices will prompt more products of this nature with larger and clearer screens.

Digital camera Review: Ceiva is Very Clever
Summary: 5 Stars

I tried my first Ceiva because it looked like an interesting Internet Appliance. I have bought three more because it is such a great idea -- the perfect Grandma gift. She can see her Grandchildren in an easy way with new pictures every day and she does not have to touch anything after it is plugged into power and the phone line.

Initially, I thought the Ceiva could be more straight forward in setting it up but I found after a few practice upload/downloads that it is very easy to use. I suggest that if your recipient is not technically facile, you set it up for them and then mail the Ceiva to them. Also, it would be instructive for you to see it go through a few cycles to fully appreciate what is happening. If you run into a problem, the Ceiva staff is very helpful and knows the product well.

You can easily add captions or colored borders to the pictures that give them a little pizzaz, change pictures easily or lock some onto the Cieva that you do not want to change. All-in-all a very clever idea that is well executed
