Digital camera Review: Three year user review
Summary: 3 Stars

Summary:
Concept: Awesome. I had an ailing Grandfather in an assisted living home who was able to enjoy memories (I utilized the album function to store lots of photos from his past) by watching his frame and never having to touch it.

Customer Service: Average. They attempt to do the right thing, but their lack of financial support for their poor technology (basically if the frame stops working after 30 days it isn't their problem anymore) is very upsetting.

Technology: Poor hardware. Even the Ceiva II I have now purchased suffered severe rebooting issues before finally stabilizing. And I highly recommend the extended warranty - though it is disgusting that you actually are buying for one year of protection...you aren't _extending_ any warranty they provide.
Their Website for maintaining the frame is very easy to use and has come a long way in allowing lots of different functionality to personalize your frame.

Cost: High (too high). Now that they've come up with the Ceiva II the subscription rate is $90 a year. Pretty steep. Be sure that if you have technological problems with your frame that you demand the addition of weeks/months added to that subscription.

My History: I bought my first Ceiva Digital Photo Receiver (the 'Ceiva I' as it is now referred to) in October of 2001. Actually I purchased two. Right out of the box one worked (after a bunch of hassle forcing it to dial-in repeatedly) and one did not. Ceiva sent me a refurbished frame in replacement of the one that didn't work (though this refurbished frame worked great, it was disconcerting that they didn't send me a brand new frame).
The two frames worked good for 1.5 years. Then, the frame that was orginally okay out of the box suddenly stopped working. Back and forth, we decided to get a new frame to replace it. Ceiva was good about transfering the subscription we already had over to the new frame and adding a month of service since we were unable to utilize the frame during that time.
Five months later THAT frame stopped working! Ceiva claimed they had a rash of problems with a set of frames and said a little electrical connector should fix the problem. They sent the connector for free. It did not fix the problem. My feeling is that this connector should've been sent to all customers who received those faulty frames because it looked to be a device to stop electrical surges...and obviously once your frame is dead, it isn't going to fix it. Ceiva would not do anything to reimburse cost or swap frames. I was out the money. So, because it was a frame for my parents...and they were just about to have their first grandchild, I purchased the 'Ceiva II' to replace it. Big problem there is that it meant my subscription rate went automatically from $60/year to $90/year. OUCH. Again, Ceiva was good about extending my subscription for the time I was unable to utilize the frame.

Basically, Caveat Emptor. The concept is great, but there are hassles in your future with the technology, and additional $$ to be paid out.

Digital camera Review: A Great Way to Keep Your Family Close
Summary: 4 Stars

We purchase two Ceiva frames almost 2 years ago-one for far away grandparents and one for in town grandparents. Set up was simple. Did have one of the frames with the infamous "faulty power supply", but tech support was easy to reach and sent it right away. They also credited that one account for the time the frame was down, extending the subscription. Can't ask for more than that. Both grandparents love the daily weather updates and I usually upload the same photos to both frames (which can be accomplished in one swoop, 10 at a time.) I usually reserve two slots for the Ceiva frame to randomly select a photo from two previous albums, just for the kick of "look how much they have changed, just since last year". The new upgraded frame has 30 photos (instead of our twenty) and a print button. They only negative thing is that the more photos grandparents get, the more they want! LOL! I got calls from both sides early on the morning of Nov. 1st because they didn't have Halloween costume pictures on their frames yet! They absolutely adore their frames...expensive but money well spent. They get so excited to wake up to new pictures. We send all kinds of things...scanned art work, photos, messages, and even greeting cards (Ceiva usually has several seasonal cards and stationary to chose from). You can even upload messages/photos to be delivered at a later date. It is nice because they can see all the photos and if there are a few they wish they had prints of, they can go online and order as few or as many as they want. It lets kids and grandparents easily share everyday moments, not just once or twice a year formal portraits. Our Ceivas definitely have bonded kids and grandparents in a high tech way!

Digital camera Review: CEIVA Digital Photo Receiver
Summary: 1 Stars

My 84-year-old mother received one of these for Christmas last year. From the very first, it had problems. It has been non-functional now for at least 4 months. It was a wonderful idea for her because her grandkids could send her pictures of her great-grandchildren that she doesn't get to see very often. However, it was very disappointing for her when it quit working.

Digital camera Review: Keep this number handy.. you'll need it.
Summary: 1 Stars

1-877-MYFRAME By the way.. you won't find this number anywhere on their website. They'd prefer you email them, so they can ignore you. Frame went out after just going over the warranty period, which is a whopping 90 days. This is after they replaced the power adapter (that was part of a huge batch of bad ones that were sent with many frames.) They'll be happy to sell you a refurbished model for $65 more dollars, though...

Digital camera Review: Best Digital Option
Summary: 5 Stars

We've run 4 of these frames for over 2 years now, and still love them. I bought them for Christmas when on rebate and kept one for us, and sent others to Mom, Dad and Mother-in-law who are all out of state. One of the 4 arrived damaged and did not work, but if you buy from a reputable source (Amazon.com for example) there was absolutely no problems getting a replacement shipped. They are somewhat fragile, so some breakage is to be expected. The parents, none of whom are really technically savvy, were all able to set them up and get them running no problem. Once you get the hang of how the frame translates the photos, you will start taking/selecting photos which are better rendered on the Ceiva screen. We've sent photos from coffee shops in Alaska, cruise ships and wireless laptops all over the country. Parents feel like they are there with us on vacation. Once you learn the website and how to manipulate the photos, it's really quite easy to work with. We even share one of the frames with my brother so that he can also send photos of a new baby. We think this is the BEST digital photo frame for the money and we recommend it to all of our friends. Everyone who sees it in our house is really impressed (too bad we aren't on commmission!). Since the recent arrival of our new baby, we are reminded regularly by the parents how much they love these frames. My dad even unplugs his and takes it places to show people the photos of his new granddaughter. It's really a GREAT investment and much less hassle than having to log on or look at e-mail for photos or having to load and unload from a memory stick.
