I was very excited about buying a CEIVA for my technology-phobic, West Coast parents, who are in their 80s. I thought they would love seeing pictures of the grandkids, and they did... the one time it worked. After MANY attempts to fix it, including over a dozen phone calls to CEIVA to try to get the problem resolved, CEIVA acknowledged defeat and told us to return the unit to them. (I might add in that 1) calls to customer service easily chew up an hour of your time, since they'll keep you on hold for a minimum of half an hour before you get to talk to anyone; 2) they weren't particularly nice during the calls, and intimated to my parents that perhaps they weren't smart enough to figure out how the thing worked).
Well, my parents returned the unit to CEIVA as instructed, after pointing out to the company that we hadn't bought it directly from them. CEIVA said this was ok -- they even provided a return authorization number. My parents promptly mailed it off. Thank goodness I told them as a precaution to send it with delivery tracking and insurance. CEIVA never acknowledged having received it; when I contacted them 6 weeks later to say that I hadn't seen a refund on my credit card, they couldn't find the receiver; then, when they finally did find it, they refused to refund our money, stating that their only remedy was to send a new receiver. Well, at this point, as you can imagine, my parents didn't want the friggin' thing. So I am now stuck with a $150 receiver and nobody to use it. CEIVA, and CEIVA customer service, is horrible. I wouldn't recommend their products to ANYONE.

We got a CEIVA for our kid's grandmother, concept was great but the unit died two times and it takes weeks to get it repaired. Due to her age, she was not tech savvy so had to have someone else come over to work on it, pack and ship, reinstall, etc. Disappointing but was the only long distance photo option I could find - will be looking for a more reliable option.

Digital camera Review: Can't rate it from Canada... Summary: 2 Stars
I am still trying to get over the embarrassment of giving a wedding gift that won't work. I first saw and fell in love with the Ceiva on a computer show featuring this device. The guy claimed that anyone could use this thing from anywhere. He failed to mention "anywhere but Canada!" If we're willing to pay the long distance charges (hey, what about the toll-free #) why are we not able to activate the thing. I don't know whether I should return it or wait until it becomes available worldwide.

My siblings and I have used this product for nearly a year to send photos to my Grandmother. She wouldn't know a keyboard from a mouse, but was able to set this up with the help of an amazing Ceiva Support Person. The Album feature allows us to cue up 100's of photos, and each of the grandchildren can log on and maintain their own albums. And you can now send photos directly from Snapfish.com for free. Other reviewers have stated the device is pricey, but it's worth 10x the cost to a nursing home bound Grandmother.

I think the Ceiva frame is a great idea, but they've got a lot of room for improvement. Customer support is certainly not their strong point, so if you're thinking about buying a Ceiva, then think twice about it. Out of the two emails that I sent to Ceiva from their website, NEITHER got a reply. In order to make changes to my subscription I had to search and search to find a phone number to call. THEY DON'T WANT YOU TO CALL THEM - just try to find a contact number on their web site! You can't do it! The Ceiva frame, which I purchased as a gift for my parents, has now failed, and it's past the 90 day warranty period, so I'm out of luck. Plus, if you cancel your subscription with them after 180 days YOU GET NO REFUND AT ALL. Even the customer support phones are a problem... expect to routinely be waiting on hold for 1/2 hour or more, all the while listening to a recording telling you how "important your call is" to Ceiva. Sorry... I loved the frame when I first opened the box, but I really can't recommend Ceiva to anyone until they take their customers seriously. It's great to own a Ceiva frame... until you have problems with it.
