Digital camera reviews of Celestron Accessory Kit

Digital camera Review: Great for the begining amateur (PS Im not really a kid)
Summary: 4 Stars

For the begining astronomer this is a great deal/product. While it may not be the BEST quality is is sufficient for the person who is just starting out. Just for the record im an AMATEUR so i only can compare it to common sense and the EPs the scope came with. But before u fork out the money make sure u need this many eyepieces. thers always the option of a barlow and 1 or 2 other EPs. Heres my take:

Eyepieces: Iv found the eyepieces to be quite good. The coating on the 32mm seems to be fragile but it could just be more moisture got on it than i know about. I haven't noticed a drastic change in performance though. A nice combonation of magnifications. the 4mm &* 6mm have very short eye reliefe.

FILTERS: i havnt gotten to use these alot yet.

BARLOW: this is my major complaint with this kit. the first one i got the barlow had a major blemish so i returned it (not through amazon) and the second one had a very small blemish. When i use the barlow at high X on planets i start so see some specs in the image. Over all the barlow isn't that great quality, it is still fine though unless ur a perfectionest like me.

VERDICT: for the beginner this is a GREAT kit. it maynot be the quality of Televues but is good enough to get started as it provides a good combination for DSOs and planetary observing.

Digital camera Review: Great kit!
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a super kit. The filters & lenses are very nice & of good quality. Everything works well. I really liked the sturdy locking case (although mine came without a key) & how well the foam interior holds the lenses & filters snugly & safely. The foam has cutouts to hold each lens & a section for the filters to be stored side by side, also surrounded by foam. We've used all of the filters & have used the lenses also several times since our purchase. I highly recommend this for begining & mid-level telescope astronomers.

Digital camera Review: Great set
Summary: 5 Stars

As luck would have it I have only got to use the set once. But wow great eye peices. If you're just getting in to star gazing great way to start

Digital camera Review: Many choices.
Summary: 4 Stars

I bought this kit with my first telescope, so I was naturally obsessed with magnification like most beginners. So yes, it's true that magnification isn't everything, but it is nice to have the option available all in one case. The filters will take me some time to figure out how to use, but once again, at least I have them. The case is well made and has room for extra items like the eyepiece that comes with the scope and even the red-dot spotting scope fits. All in all, a lot of stuff for a reasonable price.

Digital camera Review: Mediocre optics
Summary: 3 Stars

Celestron is like the McDonalds of the telescope industry. Sure they serve cheese burgers, but they aren't as good as the ones at a premium joint. What you get here is a 32mm, 15mm, 9mm, 6mm, 4mm and 2mm plossl eye pieces, a 2x barlow len for doubling your magnification on any of the eyepieces. That sounds like a bargain, 6 eye pieces for the price of 2 or 3 you might see else where. The fact is, you are really only going to use the 32mm, 15mm and maybe the 9mm because the eye relief if so poor on anything less here. The 6mm, 4mm and 2mm are basically useless. Read my suggestions below for other ideas. I used this with a SkyQuest XT8 Classic that came with a high quality 25mm eye piece. Comparing the eye piece between the Celestrons 32mm and 15mm, you can just tell that the 25mm is higher quality, the image is more crisp.

Pros:

Nice carrying case
Variety of lens filters plus all important moon filter

Cons:

Mediocre optics
Poor eye relief

Suggestion:

So yes, I rate this accessory kit as mostly mediocre as I bought it when I didn't know any better since this was for first telescope. If I was to do it all over, I'd be better suited to buy couple high quality eye piece (like 15mm or 10mm) from a company like Meade or Orion. The quality will be higher and you won't really need to get anything better. This is an entry level product and if you want to have further enjoyment from your telescope you are going to need to buy better eye pieces so why don't you skip this step and go for the higher quality from the start?
