Digital camera reviews of Cisco-Linksys WET54G Wireless-G Ethernet Bridge

Digital camera Review: 54 means 20
Summary: 1 Stars

I'm returning my WET54g. 802.11g is kind of a scam - they claim it can do 54Mbps, but in reality the maximum you can do is 20Mbps; 14Mbps if you also have 802.11b devices on the same wireless network. The WET54g itself is an OK 802.11g device, but I had more connection flakiness with it than I expected. Mostly I was disappointed that 802.11g isn't nearly as fast as the advertising claims.

Digital camera Review: A Waste Of Time
Summary: 1 Stars

A complete dud. I spent all day trying to set it up, to no avail. Don't waste your time. I normally have had good luck with Linksys products but there's always one execption. On the bright side Amazon made it very easy to return and credit was issued in days.

Digital camera Review: A awesome wireless-G bridge
Summary: 5 Stars

First let me just say read the manual. Better yet visit the Linksys support site and read the instructions for web browser based setup. This is easy to setup and works great with my Linksys WRT54GS V.6

I set this up months ago when I purchased it and it has worked flawlessly since. I have it connected to my DIRECTV HR20-100 HDDVR for "On demand" download use.

Even when the power goes out this thing springs right back to life (we were without electric for over a week due to the ice storm here in Oklahoma) as soon as power is restored. I would not trade it for anything.

Digital camera Review: A perfect fit
Summary: 5 Stars

The Linksys WET54G Wireless-G Ethernet Bridge was easy to set up and worked with all my existing wireless equipment flawlessly. The comprehensive setup options for the router made customizing access and and connections fluid and boasts a easy to use CD wizard that will get even the beginner up and running in less than a half an hour. Over all it is a fantastic product and performs seamlessly.

Digital camera Review: Adequate performance but difficult setup
Summary: 3 Stars

I bought this product to attach my Tivo to my 802.11g home WiFi network. The Tivo has a USB interface, not an Ethernet interface, and it doesn't support any 802.11g USB adapters that I could find. So I used a Linksys USB Ethernet adapter (works fine, used it for a while connected by a wire to my router) and added the Ethernet Bridge. I was dissappointed that I received the old version, version 1, even though version 2 has been available for over a year. My network used WPA for extra security, but version 1 only supports WEP. I had to reconfigure my entire network for WEP, which is known to be much less secure. The user's guide was cryptic and did not give much help in setting up the bridge. Even though I spent an hour on the phone with technical support, even they couldn't figure out how to upgrade the bridge firmware to the most up-to-date version 1 firmware. It's really not appropriate that they have two products with the same part number that have different capabilities (version 1 WEP - version 2 WPA). When you place the order, say with Amazon, you have no way of knowing which one you'll get. I will say that once I reconfigured my network, the bridge has worked ok.
