Digital camera reviews of Cisco-Linksys WET54G Wireless-G Ethernet Bridge

Digital camera Review: Is it bad hardware, or bad support?
Summary: 1 Stars

This thing was squirrelly out of the box. The documentation is really, really poor. The set up software didn't find the device, and I changed into my networkman cape. Called support and they had me changing all sorts of network settings before they decided that it was "defective". I suspected that was just an excuse to get me off the phone, so I cycled the hardware a few times and got it working long enough to start the configuration process. After I uncabled it, it disappeared and when I recabled it reappeared, briefly. In the end I couldn't find it at all.

Numerous calls to support, and a missed dinner have me at the question: Is it bad hardware, or really bad support? Thing is, I don't care, it cost me too much time to sort out. And it ain't cheap! I'll have an RMA in the morning and a wireless bridge from someone else in a few days.

Digital camera Review: It USED TO work for me for my home stereo 2 STARS NOW
Summary: 4 Stars

I have seen the future and the future includes home theater amplifiers with Ethernet ports. Recently, I purchased a home theater receiver, the top of the line Pioneer Elite. One of the features I wanted to have was the ability to stream internet radio stations through the receiver. The one issue I had was how to run Ethernet to the receiver. The Internet in my house comes over the DSL modem in the back bedroom - far from the living room where the receiver lives.

This is where my old review (4 stars) ends and my updated review begins.

I had been able to get this to work with my old Linksys router, but now that I have an Apple Airport Extreme using WPA Personal versus WEP, I cannot get the WET54G to work.

Despite a online "chat" with tech support and a firmware "downgrade" (2.15 to 2.07) I could not get the bridge set up to the point where it worked. Is it possible that it was "operator error" on my part? I don't think so, but regardless, this should not be so difficult to get set up.

How about better macintosh support, Cisco? The wizard application only works on PCs.

I'm off to find another product.

Digital camera Review: It does just what it claims and does it well!
Summary: 5 Stars

I am using this bridge as a wireless bridge from my wired network in one room of the house to connect to my WRT54G wireless router in another room. It works perfectly. I have 1 computer and 2 printers connected to a D-Link DGS-2208 Gigibit Switch which is connected to the WET54G Wireless Bridge which is connected WIRELESSLY to the WRT54G router. That's right, no wired connection between the wired network in one room and the internet which is from the WRT54G router/modem/switch in another part of the house. My wife's laptop connects wirelessly to the home network through the WRT54G and is able to print to either of the two installed printers and we can share files between my computer on the wired network and hers wirelessly through the WET54G and the WRT54G. If you need to connect your wired network to the outside world and don't want to run wires all over the house then this is your answer!

Digital camera Review: It does not work well with Canon multifunction printers
Summary: 2 Stars

I had hoped to buy this wireless ethernet bridge so that I could place my Canon printer/copier in the garage, without having to use a long ethernet cable.

My hopes were dashed, when the product arrived and I set it up. The printer would not be visible on my home network unless I rebooted the ethernet bridge and printer. It would stay visible for a minute or so. After that the ethernet bridge and printer required re-booting!

Overall, it was a bad experience.

Digital camera Review: It works however......
Summary: 1 Stars

I found out that this locks up my router every time I hooked this device up when I had to configure it. This is when I had to hook this up to my laptop directly. I did look on linksys' site and they have 2 versions of this bridge only found on their download section. The one that I got was the v1.1 which many people on this board may have written about this particular version. (...)
