Digital camera reviews of Cisco-Linksys WET54G Wireless-G Ethernet BridgeDigital camera Review: Great bridge; priced a bit high Summary: 5 Stars
I was an early adoptor of wireless what seems nearly a decade ago, and have used Linksys products exclusively, and have helped friends and family use other products.
This was the easiest intallation of any Linksys product I've ever used (seven of them). I bought the brige to hook my young kid's Win98 machine to noggin.com.
I use a different IP range than the defaults (not 192.168.1.x). So for installation: I changed my router back to the default (192.168.1.1) and rebooted; then browsed the brigde (192.168.1.226) and used admin/admin as the username and password (most Linksys products use a blank for user id). I configured the bridge to my desired IP, and set my WEP security. I set my router back, and rebooted again.
I then hooked the bridge up to the Win98 machine; and was done! (I never used the CD)
PS. This was much easier than dealing with Win98 drivers on a wireless card; and, I'm able to place the antenna up higher than the CPU.
Digital camera Review: Great for that isolated spot in your network! Summary: 5 Stars
I have an area in my home that is about 100 ft from where my office and wireless router are at. I was having a hard time getting a good signal over there. The WET54G worked beautifully! I've had it for about a month now and have never had any problems. The only hiccup is in the setup. By default, the bridge is set to the 192.168.1.0 network - Make sure the computer you're using to set the bridge is set to that network. Once you've done that, you'll have no problems.
Digital camera Review: Great product, lousey tech support Summary: 3 Stars
The product is great. Enables me to upgrade firmware for my electronic components and allows me to connect Wii to the internet from another room. BUT, about 85% of the time you can't just plug it in and it works so you have to call tech support. They had my network, my computer, my laptop, my router and the bridge so messed up that it took three days to get me back online on just my PC. Everyone I talked to had a different fix and by the time they finally sent me to the "advanced" person, it was such a mess I couldn't connect to the internet at all, from any of my connection points. I still can't connect to my network from my laptop. They've got it so messed up that my ipconfig reports one set of ip numbers and my router reports another so when I enter IPs for my HD player to download firware, it gets confused. Instead of sticking with it, they told me I'd have to call my laptop maker and my HD maker for fixes. Fixes that wouldn't have been needed had Linksys not screwed it up so badly.
Digital camera Review: HORRIBLE RANGE DO NOT BUY! Summary: 1 Stars
The range on this is horrible. I have a wireless laptop card 1 floor below this and it works fine, yet the bride doesnt work good on the 1st floor. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS!!
Digital camera Review: Hack your own! Summary: 5 Stars
I've had this product up and running connecting my DVR to the internet without running wires all over my house. This
product does work as stated but, If I had known then what I know now I would of saved about sixty dollars or so by
ordering the linksys wrt54g router and downloading DD-WRT firmware and wala after about 5 minutes, you'll have a
four port bridge for a fraction of the cost, so simple a cave man can do it! Linksys won't tell you this, Amazon wont tell you this, so I will. You don't need a masters degree in computer science. The firware download is free!
all you need as about 10 minutes of your time, Manually insert the SSID and WPA key and Channel your current router
is using and the router will do the rest, Tested this with my xbox 360 and and it thinks its hard wired to the Internet! Yes you can run up to four different wired devices off your new router converted to a wireless bridge.
you can purchase a wrt54g router off of amazon for about 25-30 dollars, or you could purchase a 5 port linksys bridge for about 160.00 or a single port for about 90.00.
