Digital camera reviews of Cisco-Linksys WMP54G Wireless-G PCI AdapterDigital camera Review: Absolute Rubbish! Summary: 1 Stars
This card worked for about 3 weeks then quit. I'm experienced at setting up networks and did everything possible to resurrect this card, short of shaking chicken feathers over it while dancing a jig. As per message that popped up on the Linksys screen, "you are connected to the access point, but the internet can't be found." I was connected, but could not go on the internet! HUH? A rather odd message, since that is what most people would like to do with a network card. If you go on the Linksys forums, you will see MANY people with the exact same problem. Shame on Linksys for putting forth such a piece of junk. I wasted two days of my life trying to get this thing running again. I'm off to buy from Hawking.
Digital camera Review: Affordable and managable home networking w/ Linksys... Summary: 4 Stars
Just got my 54G PCI card & it works great. I absolutely love it and it has had no problems working w/ my current 802.11B Linksys wireless router. Going to upgrade to the 54G router from Linksys later. Just plugged the card into my computer and away we went w/ instant wireless internet/intranet access. Took no time in setting up the 128bit encyption & was very easy! The only thing I am having a problem w/ is setting up my network printer, but I think that has something to do w/ on my end. Gr8 deal for sixtyninebux w/ free shipping! Would highly recommend it. Right now the router is approx 100ft away w/ approx 6 walls between the antennae and router (works great!) Also Linksys tech support is awesome and patient.
Digital camera Review: An exasperating waste Summary: 1 Stars
Desktop WinXP, wireless Win2000, two full wasted days.
The WMP54G is technically "active", but will not connect to the router. I literally reformatted the hard drive AND stripped the wireless machine down TO THE BONE to ensure there were NO other factors at play. I also paid a genuine guru (who makes a living at this sort of thing) to look at it, and after several hours he gave up too. This thing is going in the trash.
Digital camera Review: Antenna fell off several times Summary: 2 Stars
Maybe 2 1/2 stars.
Software and wireless setup for this card went fine, even great, and have continued to work for over 1 1/2 years now but . . .
Here's the rub.
Seems the housing on the card that receives the threads of the antenna was not properly attached to the board.
The antenna would not work properly - 0-50% signal strength from the Access Point in the next room when it wasn't falling off the back of my machine! Futzed with the thing getting half-*** performance with it for toooo long until . . .
Had to remove board from computer, use plier to remove antenna from the recept and VERRY carefully place the card in a vice and use vice-grip/clamp tool to forcefully slide the 1/2" housing in place onto the board.
Did this once and it didn't seat far enough (antenna fell off) and a couple weeks later had to repeat the process.
Apparently it needed to be pressed on even further and it actually snapped (securely ?) the 2nd time after using more force that you might imagine on such a delicate device.
It has worked as advertised since then (about a year now).
There ARE other reviewers who have suffered from "antenna drops off" too. Be warned.
When one pays extra "for quality" they should expect better than this.
It's time again to add to my network and will try a different board (for half the price).
Digital camera Review: As Advertised Summary: 5 Stars
This wireless adapter installed quickly & works flawlessly on Windows Vista running a Linksys router. I'm extremely happy with this product and would recommend it to anyone looking to free their pc from wires. Two thumbs up!
