Digital camera reviews of Cisco-Linksys WRT310N Wireless-N Gigabit RouterDigital camera Review: After initial setup challenges, product works great Summary: 4 Stars
I purchased this product because I upgraded my Comcast internet service (with download speeds up to 50 Mbps), but my existing router was throttling my connection (limiting download speed to ~3 Mbps). I tried configuring the router using the automated setup application provided with the product's CD, but the setup application failed. I called the technical support operation and was connected with an excellent technician who stepped me through the configuration process (took ~20-30 minutes). After configuring, the router works great. I now average download speeds with Comcast of 40-50 Mbps and have seen spikes of over 70 Mbps on some occasions! If you have a need for speed, this is a great product to have. (Note: Had I not encountered the initial setup problems, I would have rated the product 5 out of 5.)
Digital camera Review: Another hot running wireless router from Linksys Summary: 2 Stars
I have had this unit for 10 months. Unit works fine until several of us are connected wireless.
Unit gets hot and disconnects us. I haven't tried unit out wired once this happens but feel sure the whole thing goes down. It takes awhile and a lot of data movement before it shuts down but when it does it sure is aggravating. I replaced my WRT54G with this unit for similar reasons but not happy with any mainstream wireless routers. They all are weak in some respect or another. Anyway hope this helps and hope Cisco Systems will make a replacement unit with a cooling feature of sort.
Digital camera Review: Avoid this router to avoid headaches Summary: 2 Stars
As others have reported, this router is great for most things but every week or so it locks up. A simple unplug fixes it but if that happens when you are out of the house trying to access data at home, you are SOL.
Linksys is unresponsive to there being any issues as they seem to think we are all making it up...
Digital camera Review: Awesome Router! Summary: 5 Stars
I installed the router last night and I finally have full coverage throughout the entire house (both floors) with NO dropped signals. I use a PC laptop for work in the most remote part of the house and I now have 5 out of 5 bars and it has stayed connected continuously for almost 20 hours now. It used to drop the signal every hour or so and I'd have to reconnect. We have the following also accessing the router with no problems: 17" iMac, Powerbook, (2) MacBooks, (2) MacMinis, Xbox and a PS3. The router's performance has exceeded my expectations!
Update: I forgot to mention that I have not had the heat issue that others have mentioned. Mine is barely warm to the touch.
Digital camera Review: Awesome, Excellent, Incredible, Seriously Summary: 5 Stars
I hesitated on buying this router based on the mixed reviews I read. But the professional reviews convinced me. Now, after 24 hours of continual use the modem is not at all "HOT" to the touch (barely warm in fact) laying normally on a desk. I have two PC's running, a laptop accessing the wireless and my son had a friend spend the night and so they had 2 Xbox 360's on wireless, too.
No reboots on the modem, awesome signal range and strength, no heat problem whatsoever, install was the easiest I've experienced yet (having used Netgear and Linksys routers in the past) and from opening the box to running was under 10 minutes using the LELA software. Mine came with firmware version "v1.0.06 build 001Oct 6, 2008" installed, and I probably won't upgrade unless I see a need to.
Either Linksys has addressed some of the problems others have noted, or the other reviewers had a lemon or messed up the install. I for one am happy with this modem; the speed, range and strength of signal are all they're hyped up to be. You'll love it... get this one.
