Digital camera Review: Beware of rerouting problems Summary: 1 Stars
at first it was great. However, after using it for a couple of months, my router now reroutes me when I go to certain websites. It is a problem with linksys firmware. I would NEVER buy another linksys again. If you google linksys firmware reroute problems, you can see several people having issues with this.
Digital camera Review: Blazing fast and works great with DD-WRT Summary: 5 Stars
This is a review of the hardware. The first thing I did was install the Linux based DD-WRT firmware so I don't know how good or bad the original Linksys software is.
Heat does not seem to be an issue for me. The device runs a little warm but no more so than my old router or gigabit switch. [...] reports 52 megabits down and 24 megabits up on my fiber line which is almost twice as fast as I've ever been able to get with my old WRT54G on the same line.
The wireless connection has been very stable. No dropouts to report of.
Digital camera Review: Buyer beware!!!! Summary: 1 Stars
This is the most horrible piece of computer hardware that I have ever purchased but what is worst was Linksys's attempt at technical support. The hardwired side of the router was okay; the wireless side sucks raw eggs. If I attempted to connect outside of the 12x12 room where the router was located, the connection went from excellent to very good. When I went 30 ft away the connection went from very good to none. Meanwhile I was picking up four my neighobors' networks from the same location.
I spent one weekend with Linksys tech support via online chat; two different techs. Problem was not resolved. I ran out of time so one week end later, I called into Linksys tech support on the phone. The first tech told me that the problem was me going into a different room... the house walls caused the problem... what's wrong with this picture. I asked to speak to another tech and while waiting got disconnected.
I called in again; got a tech and she started to walk me through reconfiguring the router. She seemed to know what she was doing but when we got to the reconnect to the wireless network stage, when I tried to reconnect to the router, which was connected to my Cablevision modem, the phone disconnected and I lost the tech. She never called me back.
I called in again, got another tech; had to go through the whole story all over again; went through the whole reconfiguration process again; got as far as reconnecting to wireless network... lost the phone connection to the tech again. By the way... still no wireless connectivity.
I called in again, got another tech (sounded like the first one that told me the wall were the problem); asked to speak to a supervisor. Supervisor told me that the techs didn't call back because they were too busy. I suggested that if other people were having the same problem that I was, that I could understand why there was a huge back up in the que.
He connected me to a level 2 tech and he promised that if we got disconnected, that this tech would definitely call me back. The super-tech had me reconfigure almost every screen in the linksys router setup, and, guess what, when it came to reconnecting to the wireless network, I got disconnected from the phone again. After waiting for over two hours for a call back, which never came, I reconnected my old, old D-Link non-wireless router so that I could access the internet ... the "hard way"?
Since I'm over the number of days on the Amazon return policy; I'm stuck and definitely not a happy camper.
Digital camera Review: Can't Connect To D-Link DWA-642 Summary: 1 Stars
I've been using an older Linksys wireless B/G router for a long time without problems. I wanted to upgrade to wireless-N and gave away the old router. I purchased the Linksys WRT310N and cannot connect with the D-Link DWA-642 unless I'm within 2 ft of the device. The D-Link card didn't have problems with the older Linksys router. Also, streaming video is extremely choppy compared to the old wireless-B/G router. I've purchased two other Linksys devices since they've been purchased by Cisco and neither of them have worked very well. I'm going to return the Linksys and purchase a D-Link device. If the D-Link works as it should I'm sorry to say I'm done with Linksys...
