Digital camera reviews of Cisco-Linksys WRT310N Wireless-N Gigabit RouterDigital camera Review: Good speed "if" it works !!@!! Summary: 1 Stars
Used this router for about 2 weeks before I returned it - the setup was easy and feature set / speeds are good - but wireless connectivity becomes intermittent after a few days of operation - then the wireless radio shuts down. Also to make matters worse the administrative web page errors out when the router reaches this state - only way out is to do a hard reset and setup everything again - but the pattern repeats...
Linksys support confirms they have had such issues with the router. YMMV. Try at your own risk.
Digital camera Review: Good wireless but weak on 10/100 wired networks Summary: 3 Stars
The wireless network works great.
But my wired computers with 10/100 megabit network cards were suffereing intermittent problems with data loss. Tracert and ping confirmed the problems.
Linksys tech support advised me to try using "10 half mode" on my network adapters on the wired computers. This solved the data loss problems.
This is unhappy situation because I used to have 100 megabit wired network. The net result is that adding the Linksys WRT310N to my network has slowed down my wired network.
This is not very good upgrade for my network.
The tech support person at Linksys confirmed that the WRT310N DOES NOT HAVE SPEED AUTOSENSING on its gigabit wired ports. It also does not have a management interface to configure the ports to run at 100 megabit, which would have been the best way. My wired computers would have continued to run at their normal 100 megabit speed if WRT310N had better wired features.
But like I said, 10 megabit speed is the best my wired network can do with the WRT310N unfortunately.
My advice to shoppers is, don't buy this router if you already have a 100 megabit network, because it will become only a 10 megabit network. But if you have a gigabit network already meaning the switches and cabling are gigabit already, then you will probably get excellent performance unlike me, in which case I say it's a good purchase.
This is a speed downgrade and I am unhappy about it. I dont think I will be able to use wired devices like a Slingbox for television-over-ethernet with such a slow speed as 10 megabit. I have to buy a different router I guess. The packaging on the box should have been more clear about what would happen on a 100 megabit network, then i would have bought a different router.
Digital camera Review: Great (but warning about DD-WRT) Summary: 4 Stars
Just a warning if you plan on upgrading this with DD-WRT - Amazon seems to be shipping the WRT310N v2.0s now, which don't work with DD-WRT (at least as of August 2009). If you do plan on using DD-WRT, you'll have to find another place that has the WRT310N v1s (you can find which serial numbers are for which versions online).
Other than that, great router. Nice and fast.
Digital camera Review: Great Item! Summary: 5 Stars
This is a super-fast router. It bears out its 111 CNET clocked speed. In fact, the router clearly lives up to its CNET review. Highly recommend buying if you want super-fast wireless!
As for the heat issue, I fail to see the difficulty. It's not that bad as far as I can see. It's warm, but it's not a problem.
Digital camera Review: Great Router but Transmitter unreliable Summary: 3 Stars
This is a great router. The speed is fantastic. Even the wireless is fast and has reasonable range. The "G" has a stronger signal than the "N" for some reason. I would have expected the opposite. Also the radio randomly stops working. The router is still up and running. My links on the desktop (hardwired) are never interrupted. I listen to the radio over the internet and it is always clean. My Vonage phone continues to work without interruption so it is just the wireless radio that stops working for a few minutes and then comes back. This is annoying when transferring files or doing a backup to one of my servers. Both the "G" and "N" radios fail at the same time (I have 2 wireless laptops). It is obvious that this is a random problem as some people don't seem to encounter it.
