Digital camera reviews of Cisco-Linksys WRT310N Wireless-N Gigabit RouterDigital camera Review: Great when it works Summary: 2 Stars
Configuration was easy, features are great, range was good... until the device started gettng hot (or whatever) and started dropping connections and slowing down and had to be manually rebooted. Sometimes these "hang ups" would completely stop traffic even on the switched gig ethernet ports. After about 10 reboots in 20 days I decided it wasn't fun anymore and I'm trying something else.
Digital camera Review: Great with minor design flaw Summary: 4 Stars
I am a Network Administrator so I can tell you I have vast experience with routers, switches...etc. This router is excellent and has fantastic benchmark results in both speed and distance. However I have compared it with its lower end cousins and found that though they do not have the potential of the WRT310N, they also do not have heating issues as this model does. I took apart both routers and found that the root of the issue is the space for ventilation within the device for its electronic components, The shell is the same practically but far more is compressed within the WRT310N.
After experimenting with this router I found that the best solution for the heat issue is to not place it flat on its belly as most people would assume is the best position, but rather attach it to the wall with the available screw holes on its underbelly with the rear of the router facing up. In this position I have ran her with an Xbox360, PS3 and my computer all running together with no heat issues for days. As long as you have her in a upright position like so, she is a marvel of a router for the price. I highly recommend but I do insist that Linksys address the issue in future additions.
Digital camera Review: Heat and No Distance Benefit Summary: 2 Stars
I purchased this router to replace a Netgear Mimo router, hoping to gain better coverage in my home. This router gave me less coverage then the Netgear. The new Linksys notebook card did help a little on signal with the Netgear Router..
The other problem, that others have mentioned, is the heat. This router runs very hot.
Digital camera Review: Heat issues -- don't buy Summary: 1 Stars
I bought this product 2 months ago and I constantly fight with the well-known heat issues. Device dies under load and disconnects. Reception becomes flaky at distance and constantly need to reconnect. We run 3 wireless devices and 3 wired machines on the router. Gigabit Ethernet doesn't deliver either, I achieved some 200MBit/s. I would stay away from this device. Spend $30 more and spare the grieve.
Digital camera Review: Heat issues addressed Summary: 5 Stars
I might be a day late and a dollar short but as long as you stand the product up on it's side, there is no heat issue. If you either wall mount or mimic a wall mount by standing it on the side with the ports facing up you won't have a heat issue at all. If you lay it flat, you will have heat issues. I tried it standing up with the ports face down but it got hot. The vents for the heat to escape are on the side with the ports so if you face that side up then there is no heat issues.
