Digital camera Review: A Great Router

Linksys WRT54GS Wireless-G Broadband Router with SpeedBoosterThis router is everything I wanted. My wireless HP laptop and wireless HP printer are working perfectly with this product. It was recommended to me by my nephew and I am glad I took his advice.

Digital camera Review: A Great Router - Fast - Reliable
Summary: 5 Stars

Let me preface this by saying I already owned a Linksys G router (Version 1) and the one I bought and about which I'm writing is version 7. So that's a big step. But the point is, I was familiar with Linksys and already had one installed.

Whereas my first installation some three years ago made me pull my hair, this one was fast and easy. It took no more than one hour.

Just remember to use the default password, not your old one, when you go in to configure the router. Actually, most of the configuring is done for you. But if you have even a basic knowledge of wireless networking, this is a very simple router to install.

It improved my speed on all of my computers immensely. But by way of disclosure, I must tell you that I also installed a new modem. I was tired of dropped connections and a very slow Internet --- especially since I pay for the fastest speed Cox has.

I highly recommend this router. Be sure and upgrade your firmware as soon as you get it installed. And keep the firmware updated. Upgrading the firmware is a very easy and fast operation and should be done.

The instructions are good. They're brief but all you need. Be sure and read everything as it will help you with any issue that comes up.

Digital camera Review: A Pleasant Purchase
Summary: 5 Stars

What a pleasant way to start the day off right. I bought the WRT54GS thru Amazon, it was delivered on time. Took it out of the box, brought up Linksys web site on my PC, and utilised their download application to get the box working. SHAZAM !!!! I'm on the internet with my new laptop....Great experience. Digital camera Review: A ROUTER THAT WORKS
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought a Trendnet router that donesn't work well. The signal was up and down. This router was gone to other country and the return goint to be to expensive. I decided to buy a new one. A Linksys. I received the Linksys router and it works excellent all day. It has a strong signal than my mother two blocks away receive coverage.

Digital camera Review: A disaster waiting to happen-- avoid it.
Summary: 1 Stars

I was interested to see that a number of people have had problems with this router. I bought it about a month ago to go with my new DSL service. Despite the claims of "easy set up" it did not work out of the box. After a hour wait, I got hold of Linksys technical support (clearly in some other nation besides the United States). The support rep told me to discard the software that came with the unit and walked me through a long series of downloads and software installations. After another hour or so the network was running. File transfers between my computers never worked but at least the DSL did. Then, a couple of days ago, I bought a Wi-Fi equipped PDA and tried to link it to the network. It not only did not work, the attempt crashed the internet link for my other two computers. Then I spent a miserable two hours with tech support crawling under tables, disconnecting and reconnecting wires, holding down the reboot button while disconnecting the power, checking indicator lights, downloading more firmware upgrades, entering IP and DIN numbers, walking through software installations, and other IT nightmares. Nothing worked. And Linksys said they wouldn't refund my money unless I had the receipt "all the original packaging."

No product for the home market should be this complicated to use. Either this model was badly designed or it has a bug that the company is trying to patch over with firmware upgrades instead of recalling the product. Avoid it. Even if you get it working it may not work for long.
