Digital camera reviews of Cisco-Linksys WUSB600N Dual-Band Wireless-N USB Network Adapter

Digital camera Review: Did the job!
Summary: 5 Stars

The wireless component in my laptop broke for the 2nd time, so went and got this. I have Windows Vista btw. Anyway, it is easy to install: FIRST place CD in follow the instructions, then when prompted insert Wireless Adapter, let it install it's software, click on "your" router (Be careful because you may click on someone else's; yes with the range I was able to pick up 2 other routers in my neighborhood...hint-hint set up a password if you haven't already done so on your Belkin or whatever router you are currently using) and then you should be set, unless of course you have a password on your network. After you put in your password you should be ready to go. The only time it does stop working is when your computer is in sleep mode or when the computer is off. When the computer is back on, it works just as well if not better than the wireless component in my laptop. Oh, one last thing, you can either plug the adapter directly into your usb port or place it in the dock it comes with it then hook the other end of the usb cable into the usb port. The only thing I miss from my component working in my laptop is the fact you don't have something hooked up to your usb port. Enjoy!

Digital camera Review: Disappointing performance
Summary: 2 Stars

I purchased this client adapter along with the WRT600N dual-band router and the WGA600N dual-band gaming adapter (everything was Linksys dual-band). After setting up the router and gaming adapter with no problems, I attempted to connect a computer to the network using the WUSB600N.

This adapter comes with a USB extension cable with a base at the end, so you can position the adapter in a favorable location. With the best reception, Windows reports the 802.11N connection as 270 Mbps. After connecting to my router, which was almost exactly one floor above, the connection quickly slowed and settled between 12 Mbps and 27 Mbps. This means that the 802.11n performance of this adapter was worse than the performance of the previous 802.11g adapter I was running on the same computer. In addition, I found that I could not transfer any large files across the network (802.11n to LAN, 802.11n to 802.11n, and 802.11n to 802.11g on the other band). The transfer would simply hang, and the connection would stop working. I could only restore the connection by unplugging the adapter and plugging it back in. I eventually found that I could get large files to transfer by plugging the adapter directly into my USB port, but the reception was very poor there.

All in all, I would say that this thing is not worth the money I paid for it. It would probably suffice as a last resort for connecting to an 802.11n network, but it seems to be pretty finicky about the USB power, and I never got a satisfactory connection with it, even though I am using all Linksys hardware.

Digital camera Review: Does the job well
Summary: 5 Stars

I got this for my HTPC which im also using to bridge my internet connection to my xbox. I just stuck the usb adapter in my Windows 7 32bit and it immediately recognized the adapter. As always i warn every to steer away from using the software included it just complicates the installation. Once it recognized the adapter i found my wireless network connected and entered my passphase and it worked immediately. Took just a couple minutes.

Digital camera Review: Doesn't work with Windows 7
Summary: 1 Stars

Linksys isn't supporting Version 1 of this product with Windows 7 drivers, nor do they intend to create them. So, if you are running Windows 7 or intend to get it in the future don't buy this. I purchased less than a year ago and it is already obsolete. Linksys support was also laughable in helping me try to find a solution.

Digital camera Review: Doubled my connection bars
Summary: 5 Stars

The unit came with a defective USB adapter. I called tech support and they were very helpful. They told me the error code "1719" meant the USB adapter hardware was bad. I took it back to where I bought it and got another one. That one was up and running in 5 minutes. I have windows Vista and the correct drivers for the adapter were on the enclosed CD. I have doubled the number of bars that my wireless conncection displays, from 1/3 of a bar to 3 full bars. The written instructions in the booklet were very easy to follow, as were the on-sreen instructions for installing the adapter.
