Digital camera reviews of Cisco-Linksys WVC54GCA Webcam 640x480 802.11G Wireless Internet Home Monitoring CameraDigital camera Review: A good, reliable webcam Summary: 5 Stars
We use the camera on an internal network to monitor our building entrance. It was easy to install and works reliably with the Internet Explorer browser. The software has the capability to record and monitor multiple cameras - a good feature for future use.
Digital camera Review: A little disappointed Summary: 3 Stars
This camera is OK for security purposes and stuff like that, but the software is so buggy, I keep getting errors in both Windows XP and Vista.
Image quality goes from OK in good lighting conditions to Poor in average conditions. Just dont expect to get good videos or pictures out of it.
I was expecting something better from Linksys.
Digital camera Review: A remarkable acquisition Summary: 4 Stars
It is our first ip camera acquisition. High quality images. We did have some difficult to setup outside of our network.
Digital camera Review: A very difficult company to deal with Summary: 1 Stars
This is a bad company. I purchased a wireless router from them and, truth be told, it never really worked right. The speed was ok, but it was impossible to set up without tech support and every so often it would simply stop working. When that happened I would be forced to call tech support and spend 30-60 minutes on the phone fighting with them about resetting the router. I recently purchased a new computer and decided to save a little money by moving this router to it. When I called tech support I was told that the router was out of its warranty period and they could not help me... unless I would pay them to. That's right, I would have to pay for the assistance on their product - a working product because it was not under warranty.
So be warned that you are only buying the option to use Linksys' products for a limited time - that is if you have any problems whatsoever that require tech support. I am now trying a Trendnet. Let's see if they are any better.
Digital camera Review: After paying for tech support.... Summary: 4 Stars
After reading the "easy instructions" that seemed like 1 - 2 - 3... it didn't work for me after 30 minutes of trying. I'm pretty good at setting things up.... I set up my Wireless Access Point and a Slingbox for example. Well, I knew something was up (prolly with the router settings) so I called Linksys Tech Support and it got routed to The Philippines. The lady asked me if I wanted to pay $9.99 and she would go into my computer and set it up herself using WebEx. I said, "Sure - why not??" I was already intrigued by this... even though I didn't think I should have to pay, but it's guaranteed or else you will not be charged.
After I paid, I spent about an hour with her and was able to see everything she was doing, which was manually. She also installed my camera software and set that up as well. Of course, I had to be her assistant and plug the camera in and out and such. She did a pretty good job and I was able to ask her questions in regards to setting it up on the web. I would never have figured any of that out in that little time.
I'm happy with the purchase for what I use it for (The Kitty Poo Cam!). It's placed directly above my cat box so when I go out of town and if it needs help when it malfunctions, I'm able to call my neighbor to come help!
The quality isn't so great, but it's still doable. Plus, before, I had a $30 Logitech Webcam with an additional $15 USB extender and a crazy wire going through my condo that would not be reliable as well, so paying the extra $55 is well worth it!
Check it out @ kittycampoo dot com for the quality.
