Digital camera Review: Cisco-Linksys WVC54GCA Webcam review
Summary: 4 Stars

Product is good, video quality is not that good and low luminosity complicates if used as security camera. Never hangs even when 24/7.

Digital camera Review: Completely Unstable
Summary: 2 Stars

I bought this product a year ago and found incomplete instructions from the manufacturer. It took poking around the internet to find all the instructions needed. Even once it was up and running it is completely unstable. I will go out of town... the camera will work for a few hours and then I'm left in the dark for the rest of the trip. I have NEVER gotten it to stay stable for more than a day at most... not what you need in a security camera. It also does not work with Windows Vista and the company has stated it has no intention of making it compatible. No software for Mac which I recently switched to. The TZO site is free for a year but then you have to pay for the service which does have lots of nice features and options, but with a camera that isn't stable, why would I want to pay for their site? The Linksys site is poorly set up and difficult to find answers. Support is almost nonexistant. I am in the process of trying to decide if I will try reinstalling the software and adjusting some settings or just go out and buy another camera. I regret wasting the $100+ I spent on this piece of garbage and doubt I will ever buy another Linksys product.

Digital camera Review: Consider another brand
Summary: 1 Stars

Tech support was very poor. Four different tech support calls, all using remote control of my computer, and 5 hours on the phone later, some functions worked, some never did. Something would work, then a tech call for a different problem corrected that problem but what originally worked didn't anymore. The last tech support person suggested I go out and borrow another computer! then said to send the product back for replacement. This is a brand I will avoid in the future.

Digital camera Review: DETAILED overview: firmware- software updates slow, support forum ludicrous, RTSP not as expected, otherwise decent
Summary: 4 Stars

If interacting with your router is frightening this is not the product you are looking for.

included software cd NOT required to setup camera!

Amazon shipped this with firmware R24 which is the latest to date so it is also likely the latest hardware.

The RTSP feature does not play well with VLC (VideoLAN), MPlayer, or NetTransport *especially* with authentication enabled in the camera.

Claims to be RTSP multicast capable.

do NOT pay to use TZO. Use a router (firmware) that allows use of a free dDNS provider like DynDNS. OpenWRT, DD-WRT, and tomato are excellent router firmware choices for this purpose. Or rely upon an always-on client to update/publish your public IPA.

No problem accessing the camera within LAN. Expect heavy trauma if behind two NATs from WAN side (camera connected physically via wireless bridge for example) .. though this will heavily depend on the type of router(s) you use and their respective firmware

Video streams inside firefox3 without hideous activeX kludge

If you have tweaked ConnTrack UDP for SIP you might experience added fun with this camera.

For least pain change the camera's default web port to other than 80

Master saintly patience before seeking support from linksys (forum)

Either assign a static IP address outside your DHCP scope manually within the camera config or set a DHCP reservation (by camera MAC).

WPA/WPA2 supports *only* TKIP and NOT AES. It will play well if your router/AP offers TKIP/AES (mix)

capable of 640x480 @ 30fps

This is a COLOR camera. if you want better low light performance find yourself a B&W camera.

I expected it to use a broadcom chipset as it's from cisco/linksys. It does not seem to support either AfterBurner or Frame Burst.

Do not expect this .. or much of anything else .. to play well with vista or windows 7.

Digital camera Review: Dead after less than 100 hours of working. Bad purchase!
Summary: 1 Stars

I used this cam as a pet monitor when leaving the house on short travels.
Although I have the cam for some 2 years, it was connected for no more than 100 hours total.
During my last travel, I noticed that suddenly I cannot access the device over the network. Had to call somebody to check on the cat.
When I came back home, I found that the cam is completely dead - would not show a blue light when reconnected to its power, and of course not recognized by the setup utilities. Certainly hardware failure, and after testing with another 5v power adapter - I could rule out an adapter failure.
Without much hopes I tried Linksys (now Cisco) chat support, that upon checking my expired warranty simply refused to even suggest anything.
I am no longer eligible to chat support, they said.
Well, I do understand, but do not accept such a short lifetime for something that I paid over $100 for. For an expensive device I expected matching quality.
So, buyers beware - you might think you're buying a good product, but maybe you're just renting it for a few months...
I will now go and buy a replacement camera, and it will NOT be a Cisco product - that's for sure.
