Digital camera Review: Agree that it is impossible to set up but great when it is finally working
Summary: 3 Stars

Silly me thought that if I read through all of the reviews explaining how to set it up that I would be fine. First, I'll say that I agree that Anthony Taylor's instructions from 8-4-04 were the best to understand how to reset the extender (although it won't always reset, so keep trying) and to try to get it to automatically connect to your network. However, I tried his Autoconfigure instructions about 30 times over 10 hours and while I could get both lights to turn blue, my problem was that I could never get into the extender's online screen, which is supposed to be easy as typing in 192.168.1.240 to your browser. (I've changed my router's address slightly to reduce conflicts with neighbors' wireless networks, so I tried lots of variations on the address to try to get it to work. I even reset my router to its default connections, which may have helped and then changed them back again.) Because I couldn't get into the online menus I couldn't configure the extender so that it matched the encryption settings on my network nor could I upgrade the firmware. Somehow I was able to get into the menus a couple of times (not sure how since I can't do it again) and in one of those times I changed the settings. I spent another couple of hours working on it before I brought the extender into the other room, connected to it via my wireless card, and realized that it was actually working. At this point I'm getting a 100% excellent connection where I got 50% before so I'm quitting while I'm ahead and not trying to figure out how I got it to work. I'll need to set up a connection in another room in a few months so will deal with it then, hopefully in less time than I messed around with it this time.

Digital camera Review: Air net expansion
Summary: 4 Stars

My house didn't facilitate maximum range for the WRT54G router. I added the WRE54G Range Expander in the hope that the house's shortcomings would be modified. After some terrific help from Linksys' support people, it is working as advertised and I couldn't be more pleased. The instructions are insufficient for less-than-expert networking people but the excellent free support will "fill in the gaps". Strongly recommend this equipment!

Digital camera Review: Amazon reviewers save the day!
Summary: 5 Stars

I have a Linksys WRT54AG router, which runs our home network. We use wireless WEP encryption for our laptops. I really needed this little box, as there were many wireless blackspots in our house. I was worried about buying it after all the negative reviews here. I need not have worried, as the comments from everyone made the installation very painless.

As advised by Amazon reviewers, I completely ignored the enclosed Linksys setup CD, and followed the suggestions here. Despite that, I couldn't get the wireless autoconfig to work, even though I had the required two blue lights, the WEP was disabled on the router and I did a power-off reset of the expander. So I followed the advice of Sr J. Gonzalez and connected the box with the provided Ethernet cable. Instantly the expander address of 192.168.1.240 was visible on Internet Explorer. I matched all the settings by pulling up the router page on the computer screen at the same time. One thing to mention is that you need to enter the "gateway" which is your router's IP address on your local network - usually 192.168.1.1, but check what your router uses! I had the expander installed and working perfectly within about 20 minutes.

So far so good! I am delighted with it, but I think it is all thanks to people here who told me how to set it up. Thanks so much to all of you!

Digital camera Review: Another Nightmare from Linksys
Summary: 1 Stars

I've got about 2 hours into trying to get this Plug N'Play/AutoConfig unit going. In my research I've found that this unit is only Plug N' Play with the most current versions of the Linksys WRT54G. After that your into changing a bunch of settings - which I've tried. I reached the point in the advice posted here where I type in 192.168.1.240 - guess what it doesn't work on either the PC or laptop. I get a "Cannot find server or DNS Error" page.

Look I realize its my ignorance but if your going to sell to the general public you should include some decent directions. If you do not have a working knowledge of the terms; WEP, default gateway, AP and subnetmask be wary of your success in setting this nightmare up.

Digital camera Review: Another Weekend Waisted - Thanks Linksys.
Summary: 1 Stars

Should be zero stars...I tried everything - Software crashed...Now,I'm still trying to recover my notebook so that it can connect to the Internet again. If it didn't spare my wife and two kids computer connections, I would have been thrown out of the house this weekend. What a frustrating rip-off.
