Digital camera reviews of Coby CVE92 Isolation Stereo EarphonesDigital camera Review: "You get what you pay for" as they say Summary: 3 Stars
The Coby CVE92 Isolation Stereo Earphones sure seem to be a smart buy from any penny pincher that is coasting the huge selection on amazon and happens to need some earphones for his or her mp3 player or laptop.
::Pros and cons
These headphones are stylishly simple. For five dollars and change, these earphones offer "good" sound quality and noticeable bass. The earphones feel comfortable although after having them in your ear for long periods of time (>1-2hrs), they start to feel stiff. The "soft" part of the earphone is just a soft, rubbery cone that is flexible. Additionally, these hearphones have a bent-arm jack for where they connect to your listening device and have a built in weakness. These earphones have a tendency to break: The first signs of deteriorating performance is static and loss of volume/sound output when the jack is touched or the cord is bent or pulled. Later on, sound output may be lost completely in either the left or right earphone. Eventually sound is lost completely.
I have purchased two pairs of these earphones. The first pair started showing problems before the first year's end. The second pair I have owned for ~3months and I have already experienced problems with sound loss when the jack is "pertubed."
I will note I am not a heavy user and am quite conscious about how I store my earphones. I do not shove them in my pocket or throw them around so I consider my earphones gently used.
::The bottom line
These earphones are a cheap buy. However if you're looking for something that will last in the long run (>1 yr), I would not recommend these earphones.
Digital camera Review: $20 sound at a $6 price, plus decent noise cancellation and comfortable to wear. Summary: 5 Stars
It would be unfair to compare these earphones to the some other more expensive earphones I own like Shure E2c Sound Isolating Earphones or Philips SHE9850 In-Ear Headphones with Advanced Acoustics. The Coby earphones cannot reproduce the highs and lows as faithfully as those earphones in the sub $100 range. However,you get good sound for a tiny fraction of the cost of the high end earphones.
Sound Quality:
The Coby earphones compare very favorably to the in earphones in the sub $25 range like Philips SHE9500 Ultra Sound In Ear Headphones or JBuds Hi-Fi Noise-Reducing Ear Buds (White). The sound of these Coby earphones is decent, they also have good bass and pretty good noise reduction. The noise reduction is not as great as some of the sub $100 earphones I have used but is good enough for listening on a plane ride. This is probably the best noise reduction you can get in the sub $20 range!
Comfort:
These are one of the more comfortable in ear phones I've owned. The flex rubber sleeves are thinner than usual and fit comfortably in the ear. I can wear them for hours without feeling any discomfort. They also don't fall out which is a big plus. The only in ear headphone that was more comfortable than these is the Philips SE9850 that came with memory foam sleeves that molds to fit your ears.
Make:
The make of these earphones is ok. The cord is quite thin and does have a tendency to tangle a bit. When you get them you have to tear apart the cord as per your preference, there is a little plastic sleeve midway to ensure you don't end up tearing them all the way down. They did seem a bit flimsy to me but in 2 months of use these earphones have held up quite well. And seriously, even if they do get damaged after a few months it will take only $5 to replace them.
Overall:
If you're like me and like to have more than one earphone lying around, this is a great product. After I lost my $100 Shures when they fell out of my pocket, I prefer to take these with me for more active trips. They sound good, don't fall out of my ears and hold up well to moderately rough use...and if I lose them, no big deal...just get a new pair.
Digital camera Review: ... Summary: 4 Stars
I love the headphones but they stopped working already. I bought them less than two months ago. If they were more durable then they would be perfect.
Digital camera Review: 2 pairs broke after 1 month Summary: 1 Stars
These are good ear buds for the first month, then the audio stops working from one ear, then the other and then both break. I was able to return the first pair, but the second pair just broke.
Do not buy these if you need a set of earbuds that you want to last.
Digital camera Review: A Good Deal Summary: 4 Stars
Considering the price you pay for this item, you really can't complain. Sure, it's not the latest and greatest sounding headphones on the market, but for $5.00 this really is a good deal on a basic pair of headphones.
I would recommend this pair for when you are out and about and don't want to risk damaging your nicer headphones.
A good deal for the price you pay, but don't expect perfection.
