Digital camera reviews of Coby DP702 7-Inch Widescreen Digital Photo Frame (Woodgrain)Digital camera Review: Converting video for Coby DP-702 Summary: 4 Stars
After alot of trial and error, I tried the freeware SUPER conversion program from [...]. Kudos to erigthsoft as it worked with following settings. I used a USB flashdrive and put the converted video under a root folder simply named "videos" to hold the converted video. The Coby recognized this folder as holding video files:
Open SUPER conversion program
Settings are critical and should be as follows from top of screen down:
Output Container AVI, Video Codec XVID, Audio Codec MP3
Encoder - MEncoder (SUPER will select this automatically)
Video - leave disable video and stream copy unchecked
Video Scale Size 320 x 240, Aspect 4:3
Frame/Sec 30, Bitrate 768
Options - check only Hi Quality
Audio - leave disable audio and stream copy unchecked
Sampling Freq - 44100, Channels 2
Bitrate 96 kps, DVD Language Track default
Output - will show summary of above settings
Right Click in Active/File Name/Streaming Link section and select raw file to be converted
Lower left click button Encode (Active Files)
Converted Video will be output to C:program files/erightsoft/SUPER/Output folder
Good luck.
Digital camera Review: Could be a lot better Summary: 3 Stars
The Disign looks great, but the directions were hard to understand. Also did not include a cord to download pictures. It costs an additional $20. It's doesn't serve its purpose if I can't download pictures.
Digital camera Review: DO NOT BUY THIS! Summary: 1 Stars
1. It does not work with SDHC, even though amazon recommends you buy them together!
2. The resolution is waaaaay below what I thought it was going to be.
3. I received two. Only one works. 50% arrive broke
4. SDHC came out over 3.5 years ago. What the heck!!!!!
5. Seriously? It does not work with SDHC!!!!
6. Normal photos will not fit nicely on this thing.
7. This is the most important one. It does not work with SDHC. I know what your thinking? What kind of manufacturer would do this??? I don't know, but i'm guessing they are a pretty poor one.
Digital camera Review: Decent *media* frame for Windows users Summary: 3 Stars
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
First up, I object to Coby calling this gadget a "Digital Photo Frame." To be perfectly honest, from what I've seen, its photo display is one of its worst qualities.
But, hands down, the worst quality: no built in memory. You have to use a USB memory stick or a flash card. HAVE TO.
Other bad qualities include:
- Clunky and overly difficult user interface
- Huge ferrite magnet on the power cord makes hanging this on a wall look shoddy
- Low and odd resolution (standard photos need to be zoomed and scaled to fit the display)
- Poorly located controls on the frame
- Zero bass reproduction when listening to music or watching videos
- Inconsistent video file recognition
- Ghost files show up (Mac users know what I'm talking about)
Now, the manual says that the frame will play MPEG-1, MPEG-4, AVI, and DIVX video files. Loading all of these formats from my new Apple Macbook, only DIVX videos actually played. Everything else displayed an error. All that said, the DIVX videos that it did play looked pretty good. I am impressed.
The tiny little built-in speaker won't play any bass (no real surprise there) but as a music player, the frame works well. So, if you have this on your desk but forgot your MP3 player, you're not bad off. But again, if you loaded up a USB stick from your Mac, the ghost files show up in your playlist. Windows users won't have this worry.
While the calendar, clock, and alarm clock work well, setting them is a pain thanks to the clunky interface.
With all these negatives, you'd think I'd have rated it lower... but here are the positives:
- Impressive DIVX video playback
- Serviceable MP3 player
- Attractive finish
- Nice extra features (clock, calendar, alarm clock, music & video playback, headphone jack, wireless remote)
Personally, I've loaded up a USB stick with some music videos, set the frame on my desk, and let it run endlessly. A task that the Coby DP702 seems quite capable of.
Digital camera Review: Decent Value For the Price, But Poor Warranty Protection Summary: 3 Stars
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
I've wanted to try one of these digital frames for some time, but was deterred by the price. Well, this one is attractively priced, and I find it generally worth the investment.
To start with, the frame appearance is nice: looks like dark walnut.
And it combines quite a few features, including photo slideshow, movie viewer and music player (as well as a clock/calendar).
However, it has minimal internal memory, so you really need to use a thumb drive or memory card. Since the price on these is now so low, its not really a great concern.
Also, this item does not take batteries, so you have to use the included power cord. This is only a negative if you wanted to mount it on a wall without the cord showing.
I found the clarity of the photos quite good for such a small screen. And you can adjust color and sharpness to fit individual tastes. The music quality is decent - oblviously its not meant as a high-end audio device.
The warranty is sub-par in my opinion. Only 90 days on labor, plus you have to include a $10 money order for return shipping. And, you must contact Coby first for return approval.... Because of these warranty hassles and limitations, I lower my overall product rating to a "3"
