Digital camera reviews of Coby TF-DVD7050 7-Inch TFT Portable Tablet-Style Portable DVD PlayerDigital camera Review: 2nd Coby dies Summary: 3 Stars
Nice features; will not last. This is our second to die within 1 year. Thankfully bought the NEW replacement policy both times.
Digital camera Review: 2nd New Unit is now DEAD - Save your money Summary: 1 Stars
We originally bought a DVD7050 in Nov 2005 for our daughter while out on the road looking for a new home. These things are great because you can take them out of the car, they are compact and woderful in a restaurant. Worked great for about 5 months. Then we got the dreaded "Invalid disk" error and the battery was getting HOT, burning HOT. It was replaced under warranty with no issues. The new one arrived in May 2006. As of Feb 2007 it was having problems with the connection on the unit for the power cord, both car and home. And you can fry eggs on the battery with this one, too. Now it will not charge and warranty is over with. Between two brand new in box units, they have managed to last a whole 14 months. Yeah it's inexpensive, but it is disposable on average of every 7 months. Look for something better, we are.
Digital camera Review: A Lifesaver On The Road Summary: 5 Stars
Driving from Lake Charles, LA to Disney World in Orlando, FL in just two days can be quite a job for the average parents with a young child. This Coby 7" Portable Tablet DVD player was purchased specifically for this long road-trip and came in quite handy. It comes with two headsets, a car charger, home charger with AC adapter, headrest mounting kit, tape deck speaker connector and a remote w/ batteries. The unit works for about two hours on a battery, but can be hooked up at home or in the car to run longer. It has connections to hook it up to most televisions and a "hold" feature that prevents the little ones from messing with the unit while it's in use.
The player is very well built considering that it is made by Coby. I've always considered Coby to be a low-end electronics company, but the positive reviews here on Amazon and some pretty flimsy models at the local stores made this unit my choice. I have to admit that I was a little uneasy making a purchase like this from Coby, but it has more than paid for itself already. With multiple hours of Disney flicks (and one VeggieTales disc), this DVD player has proven itself to be a great buy for anyone.
Highly recommended.
Digital camera Review: A Promising Bust Summary: 1 Stars
Arrived stuffed to the gills with goodies such as car charger, two batteries, two headsets, carrying case, etc. Worked wonderfully for one half hour and then stopped reading disks. Returned for refund.
Digital camera Review: A decent concept, but poor quality mars this product Summary: 2 Stars
At first glance, the design of this portable DVD player appears that it would be ideal to mount on the back of a car headrest so the little ones can watch a DVD or two on a long trip. This DVD player comes packed with goodies: a harness to mount it on the back of a headrest, two headsets, a car power outlet that looks as it was designed by Sigmund Freud, plenty of cables and an audio cassette adapter to play audio through a car stereo.
It easily connects to any TV. The only design flaw I noticed is that the DVD player must be removed from the headrest harness in order to change DVDs...a difficult task if you or your spouse are in the front seat and junior is in the back. The remote has plenty of buttons, but its range barely extends further than 4 feet away, and you must point the remote directly on the same level at the DVD player in order for it to work.
After two weeks of use, the latch that holds the DVD player together fell off while speeding down the Pennsylvania Turnpike and now resides somewhere in my car's rear seat. The DVD player now won't stay closed unless it is laid down horizontally. It is now a crippled home DVD player.
Coby replaced it with a new model, but now, most DVDs that I try to play in it are unplayable...full of pixels and stuttering pictures.
